The Acton Free Press Wednesday Juno 1977 Reelect JULIAN Liberal a HattonBurlington UNNECESSARY ELECTION The fact is that this million election should not have been called Minority Government was working well and Bills passed in the last session of the Legislature The Conservatives by calling this election have shown they are more concerned with power than with good government GOVERNMENT SPENDING The Davis Government has been on a spending spree With Your Money There has not been a balanced budget since the Robarts era In alone on the Provincial debt is 3 million per day over billion per year No wonder Hydro rates OHIP premiums Tuition fees and Go Transit fares have increased drastically A Liberal Government will be prepared to get Provincial spending under control and in regard to its rates taxes and tuitions will live within exactly the same income restrictions that you do during the anti inflation controls and in the post control period REGIONAL GOVERNMENT The Davis Government is committed to Regional Government Only minority Government has slowed the implementation process So much for local autonomy where decisions are made by people who understand the community Under the Regional system a new level of costly bureaucracy has been created and property taxes have increased by 105 in some areas versus an average of 41 in non regional areas A Liberal Govern ment will consult the people and will dismantle Regional Government where it is their will DEVELOPMENT CONTROLS Government Agencies such as the Niagara Escarpment Commission the Credit Valley Conservation Authority and Parkway Belt authority have created an overlay of bureaucracy which has placed a serious imposition on property owners These agencies have often been arbitrary and subjective in their decisions While the Liberal Party endorses the basic concepts of these agencies it will ensure that the basic rights of private property owners are respected PROPERTY TAX REFORM A Liberal Government will not implement taxation on the basis of market value assessment Such unfair assessment will drastically increase single family residential and farm taxes The ten year taxation lien on agricultural land will not be implemented Schools and charitable organizations will not be taxed EDUCATION The responsibility for the crisis in our education system lies not with the teachers or students but with the Davis Government A Liberal Govern ment pledges to return to a system where ALL students are exposed to the basics of good education and where good teachers are paid the same as good administrators UNEMPLOYMENT At present there are 320000 persons unemployed in Ontario including young people Another 200 will enter the job market this year with no prospects We cannot afford the loss of productivity and the demoralizing effect on our youth A Liberal Government will create new jobs per year for the next three years in the small business sector by contributing up to per year toward the salary for each new position created The cost will be recovered through resulting additional Provincial income and sale taxes and a decline in unemployment and welfare expendi HYDRO CORRIDOR Ontario Hydro wants fo force the volt Bruce Transmission Cor through Halton s best farmland Concerned land owners have asked the Government to order an independent study of Hydros plans and have agreed to be bound by its findings The Davis Government stubbornly refuses the study and wants a majority Government to push the corridor through Julian Reed has supported the landowners efforts since they began and a Liberal Government agrees that such a study should be or dered HYDRO RATE INCREASES Hydro rates have increased drastically Present Hydro pricing structures create lower rates for higher consumption and result in the highest rates being charged to those who can t afford them A Liberal Government will reverse the structure to promote conservation and will force Hydro to adopt better load management practices and encourage off peak power con sumption to reduce the need for rate increases WASTE DISPOSAL A Liberal Government will bring Solid Waste Recovery to Halton The need for landfill sites such as Site F will be eliminated The Liberals support continuation of the existing multisite concept on a short term basis only JULIAN REED FOR ASSISTANCE CALLACTOII8533780 BURLINGTON3359703
