receive all through the year because of His love and care At the recent church con vention at Calgary a speaker on the environment stated that man must scale down his demands If life is to endure said Mrs Margaret Mc- This idea of the importance of small things is well told in the parable of the lost coin The new bride was frantic at the loss of the small coin from her headpiece it had been gift from the groom and was very precious to her She searched ceaselessly until It was found the Bible it states there is much joy over only one sinner who has repented She concluded with thoughts based on Psalm 13J 9 We cannot hide from God We can Ignore his knock or refuse to open to his call finally after his repeated knocking we open and dis cover we have been neglecting a wonderful gift As we open to Him wo find to our surprise that He has the joy and happiness we ore seeking only we were searching in the wrong areas We are so grateful we tell others to open their doors Eden Mills Guide and Brownie news byAnnChesworlh Eden Mills Guide Company is underway for another year with girls registered Captain Ann Chesworth and Lieutenant Heard would like to extend a special welcome to Mrs Ana Maria Bell who has Joined us as a leader Mrs Bell has always been very supportive parent to Brownies Guides Cubs and Scouts and we are very appreciative of the extra sacrifice she Is making to become a much needed leader for our large group of preteen and teenage girls Our first meeting in Sep tember was aptly named Communications as we played a variety of games stressing the importance of good relationships with each other One game taken from Cubs had the majority of the Guides acting as a noisy and violent river while two Guides tried to get a message across It was almost im possible even with sign language Mrs remarked that she often felt frustrated like that with the company when she was trying to tell them something Mrs Bell protested that the noise made her change her mind about being a leader fortunately Mrs Heard was able to reply Now you know why we need you so much Some Guides were able to come out another evening during that week to receive Brownies flying up from the Eden Mills Brownie Pack Brown Owl Mrs Diana Wallace Tawny Owl Mrs Lilian and Barn Owl Mrs Eva McLaren with our retired but still acting District Commissioner we dont want to part with her Mrs Betty Petrie dispatched eight Brownies through the Brownie archway to be greeted by the Guides Since then five of them have become Tenderfoots Many plans are underway for Guides this year Most of the mothers came to a dessert party with their daughters bringing a selec tion of delicious goodies recently We were glad to everyone together at the beginning of the season especially on such touchy subjects as uniform and courtesy and the responsi bilities and role of the Patrol leader Our new Mothers Auxiliary headed by Mrs Jean Brown is already doing a tremendous job The leaders of Brownies and Guides met with the new executive so that they could get an idea of our needs and as soon as our dessert party was announced they stepped right in to organize It Tor us We do so much appreciate the support we receive from parents Many mothers of fered to drive and help in other ways and we especially grateful to the parents that offered to let us camp on their property One of our Guides Bfaakman read a prayer during the Memorial Service for Lady BadenPowell at St Georges Church in on Sunday October 2 Our senior girls have decided to form their own patrol leaving more op portunity for leadership from our younger girls The election for patrol leaders was held this week with voting by secret ballot Seventeen girls were can didates and they were all good choices however we are confident that those not elected though naturally disappointed will continue to be excellent guides The ones who were elec tedSarah Brown Margarita Bell Johns Paula and Michelle Heard have a big job ahead of them and will need a great deal of support from the rest of the company Twenty Guides and seven scouts have started Fire Safety Course at Fire Hall under the instruction of Fire Chief Carl Meadows Many interesting and alar ming stories were exchanged and I am sure everyone went home Intending to be more careful and concerned about tire safety This course lasts four weeks last week
