J Students pleased with new school cafeteria RICK MILLER to buy food at school by Jennifer The new Acton High School had many modern facilities that are a great improvement over the somewhat limited resources that were available in the old school One or the most significant areas is the new cafeteria Acton High has hired three new staff members to run it Mrs Marion Matthew Mrs Susan and Mrs Susan Johnson Marion Matthews head dietitian graduated from the University of and did her internship at St Michael s Hospital in Tor onto Mrs Matthews works along with Mrs in planning and preparing meals She also takes care or placing orders and overlooks the general operation of the cafeteria Susan assistant dietitian studied at for one year and graduated from in 1967 Mrs HEADS lineup Of people waiting works closely with the cafeteria m the new high atthews in the plan and organizational aspects of an operation like this Mrs previously worked at nursing homes in She also worked at North York General Hospital for five years Susan Johnson is a part time worker in the cafeteria Shi works from until 12 and mainly docs the cooking over lunch hour Mrs Johnson is new to this type of work but finds she is enjoying it A cafeteria club has ready been organized in the school Students work in the cafeteria during lunch per or other times the day when they are free rood vouchers ire awarded in the new school The microwave oven is quick and ideal for war ming up items for students and the dishwasher is able to wash rinse and dry in seconds The cafeteria will also be doing school catering This year the graduation dinner will be catered by the school The main objective of this operation seems to be able to offer good quality food to dents reasonable prices So far thi year they have been during a well deserved break Boy Scouts from the 1st Acton Troop were out on Friday and Saturday for their annual apple day donations Beavers Cubs and Scouts all carried baskets of apples Jennifer Rowe on staff parttime high school columnist Jennifer is now writing part lime for the f Press Jennifer who plans to take Journalism at Sheridan College in September started her duties several weeks ago She is mainly covering the school beats but v ill expand into other fields as time passes With two extra schools in town St Josephs and Smith her help is greatly appreciated She attends grade classes at high school in the mornings and reports to her newspaper job temoons on Monday Wed ncsday and or two years Jennifer reported the high school happenings via her weekly column in this paper It was through this that Jennifer realized she would like to become a journalist and set her on her future track Sister Janet a grade 10 student has taken over Jennifers column Brother Mark student of the University of Guelph wrote the Scout and Guide news for three years Jennifer attended I Bennett school before high school and does know some of the teachers in town However there are many teachers who she has not yet met who in the past have been BUILD NOW DISCOUNTS very helpful to the rce Press reporters This newspaper hopes that all our contacts in town will show Jennifer the same amount of respect and under standing which has been shown in the past So far Jennifer has no complaints The sun shone warmly for the annual Scout Apple Day Friday night the weather was nice for being outdoors Beginning at nine clock Saturday morning the Beavers Cubs and Scouts blitzed the town giving out apples in return for dona tions Many thanks to the numerous generous people who supported our move ment Thinks also to every one who helped out Saturday morning The profit of ap proximately MOO will help pay for the heating in the Hall which all enjoy Saturday afternoon the Scouts with the use of a Wednesday to speak to students about his school Students planning on en the college next year were told about their pari icular courses and what it would offer Mr Morton also told each person the require ments for their program Mr Morton himself is a graduate of the Sheridan College Journalism program and worked as public rela officer for the school for two years Anyone who missed Mr Morton
