LYNN now at University accepted three top school awards as well as an Ontario scholarship and a university scholar ship Keith Black makes the presentation McMASTER NURSING student won a university scholarship Ontario scholarship and three top awards at com mencement ONLY JOKE award of the evening the Closet award came with a kiss Bill Coats congratulates Carol Jordan and presents her with a candy necklace Last commencement exercises held in former high school on Friday The last commencement exercises were held in the former high school gym last Friday night Graduates reluming to receive their certificates and awards had chosen to gather in their old school rather than the new one which opened this fall The school was decorated for the return of high school In the school colors red and white Students families and friends filled the gym applaud the accomplishments of these fine iwng people There were about grade 13 graduates and about 100 grade Dressed in they wcreseatedin special chairs on the floor until the scats ran out The last of the grade 12 stood at the back awaiting the calling of heir names Speaking for Ins fellow students Dan Warren re enacted some of the highlights of the ytar via intercom announcements Hoars of laughter filled the gym as he repeated his imi lotions and told hilarious anecdotes He fumbled a huge mound of notes as he mounted the podium Finally he referred to what the school meant to them all and spoke of the of a small school was a feeling almost like love he said Acton will remain with us all for a long time He was comically in troduced by Geoff and thanked by Ken Ellis Jennifer last year president of the student council presented him with the traditional tonan medal Principal Dean Fink wel corned everyone saying the former school holds consider able meaning and memories He reviewed the schools history high school classes in the old stone school since 1927 the new school opening in and its two subsequent additions Tuneup The new school will be cially opened by the Hon Tom Wells minister of Education Nov The school band played on stage directed by Dave Sale Staff members took turns assisting In the presentations as proud parents crept to the front with their cameras Viceprincipal McLaren closed the program wishing the smiling graduates the best of luck In their endeavors The returning grads had gathered for dinner in the new high school cafeteria before the program while the present grade wcnl together to The Horseshoe Inn for dinner A dance was held afterward at the golf course Three girls shared the top honors during high school commencement award presentations Josee Charle Lynn Carr and Carol Grant Lynn and both received Chancellors scholar ships worth one year free tuition Carol Grant won a scholarship lo Sir Wilfred Laurier University worth Lynn was presented with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce year math prize with per cent overall the Blue Springs lower Shop award for year year English from Pauline Diamond Susan is in hotel and food management at the University of Fred Allen received the Acton Pharmacy award for year biology from teacher Rowley He is com pleting his honours program at the school received the Outers awards from Mr Rowley for achievement in Outers activities Paula received the and Co award for chemistry from John and the Building Products award for year physics with per cent from Kevin Conroy Carol Jordan received the G Tyler award from Ted Tyler Jr for outstanding contribution to school life Lorna accepted the Lakeside I O bursary from Lucille
