The village garbage truck has been sold The Trustees are happy with the work being done by the present contractors and feel lhat this is the most economical method of dealing with Village collection The Trustees decided that garbage collection and snow removal can now begin on the northern extension of Fall St Mr has brought the roadway up to he standard as a gravel road The Village Trustees have no objection to Mr and Mr La argue continuing to operate the Dining House as a restaurant These men are the new owners of the premises and had applied for a minor variance regarding the property Village Foreman Charlie Glcndenning and Bill snow plow operator expressed their concern over cars Village streets at the meeting The cars are interfering with snow removal and residents are requested to park vehicles In their driveways Tony asked lhat priority be given to clearing parking spaces at the medical centre after a heavy snow fall Mr Glen- denning agreed At the meeting It was agreed that the Village foreman would be responsible for keeping the immediate area of the Cenotaph tidy and that he would report the condition of the area to the village trustees on a regular basis This responsibility had not been defined by either the township or the village In the past and because of this problems had arisen Although the cenotaph is located in the village Ihe land is owned by Ihe township Any repairs to the cenotaph are a responsibility of the town ship Trustee stated that an ad hoc committee including himself Bill Max Storey Lloyd Dyer and Jimmy Milne will meet in the new year to decide upon a course of action regarding repairs to the cenotaph base and the installation of a wrought Iron fence about the Murray of the Hor ticulture Club had discussed with Mr Hockey the repair of the white picket fence and tree trimming Now that the areas of responsibility have been defined It Is hoped by the trustees that the cenotaph will be well tended Residents of St and Fall St had been concerned about the drainage and open ditch in their area after the installation of the new highway storm sewers The Ministry of Tran sportation examined the problem Sewer pipes have now been extended on St and the Ministry has assured Mr Thatcher that the quality of the water in his trout pond will be maintained and closely monitored As the result of a villagers complaint and the Trustees action a snow fence has been erected on the east side of the River at the south end of the bridge by Cox Construction This fence had been taken down by either highway or hydro crews and not replaced According to the Trustees snow removal on Main St S sidewalks will be carried out to the best of the foremans ability This task has been made more difficult because of rocks and earth dumped during road construction The trustees felt that there are Inconveniences that the residents must tolerate during this construction period and that they are doing their best to maintain a safe environment be a lonely Christmas miles away from Mom and Dad but at least I had my husband and new family of lnlaws I was very young and very morose However I did my best to decorate our drafty primitively heated farm house only half renovated Mack was working and away most of the time so I had carte blanche with the trimmings At the time we had about fifteen head of cattle an assort ment of pigs four or five horses including our beautiful Belgian stallions and the usual cats and dogs For these I made stockings one each with every name printed on They covered the unfinished living room wall Childish tree decorations and chains from my grade two class tran sformed the kitchen door into a mess Our dozen or so Christmas cards were strung hopefully from the door jam It all looked barren and depressing Try as I might I just couldnt feel Christmassy Christmas Eve dawned and I saw Mack off to work knowing he wouldnt be home till late The barn was always a friendly place but this morning the animals just werent enough I began terribly sorry for myself The phone rang about noon and the jolly voice or an old friend announced hed be able to spend Christmas dinner with us after all My spirits rose considerably as I bustled around doing some extra cleaning The phone rang again This time it was my doctor He bowled me over with the news that I wasnt suffering from some obscure virus but was indeed pregnant Hed saved the news as a Christmas present My joy soared so fast I had to sit down and lean back Looking up at the top of the china cabinet I noticed Mothers ever sterile Christmas cactus longsuffering my neglect had outdone itself by bearing seventeen blooms Seventeen I And it had never had a bloom in Its life never did again either The blooms werent there the day before when I dusted They had hurst forth today Christmas Eve the day I first knew Patrick At a time like that you have and pray and shout I did all of them as I yelled Merry Christmas out the door to
