The Acton Free Press Wednesday Dec 28 Academy awards at high school assembly SINGING IN the group BaNaNa at the high school assembly is from left to right Noel Blafte Cltff Bntton Barry and teacher Brian Downes Armed with bananas the group fought off the screaming girls and receptive audience The Academy Awards was the theme for the Christmas assembly at the high school last Thursday morning The grade 13 class once again followed tradition by organizing the assembly This year the change to the new school helped to make their job a little easier with all the new facilities and a proper stage Brad Buchanan and Dave Hannah were the masters of ceremonies at the assembly and acted as hosts for the academy awards per Awards were given to various people in the school for things like Out of the Year Part Goer of the Year and Bride of the Year from television shows were also awarded recognition during Acton High s academy awards Students from other grades also took part In the show by per forming skits and other humorous routines The highlight of the assembly was a takeoff of a rock group from the 1950s The stage was filled with glitter and excitement complete with background singers and well rehearsed dance steps as the Ba filled the stage with music and began waving bananas at the audience The group was made up of grade 13 s with the exception of teacher Brian who sang Why must I be a Teacher In Love The audience reacted with loud rounds of applause for the group The beard growing contest winners were announced at the assembly The prize for the most unusual beard was given to Dave Berry Best student beard was Mark Beaton and beat teacher beard went to Boris The best all round beard award was given to teacher Bill Coats with loud approval displayed by the audience A special presentation was given to Mrs Betty Cole secretary from the office for her years of dedication to the students and staff at the high school Mrs Cole Is leaving her job at the school The choir
