annual Red and White In v Itational tournament for middle school teams Saturday and of George town came away winners Tor the first time in three tries Rolling Meadows were the easy consolation champs breezing over in their final game won their first game of the tourney with an easy win over Fair view of Milton Matt Vuk led the scoring with 12 points followed by Rob Vermeulen with nine and Scott with eight B Wong Dean Hughes and Scott Nolan each collected four points in the romp Having the home fans on their side was not enough to lift McKenzieSmlth over eventual champions Stewart town In their second round loss whileBobLlttleandScott matchop The Stewarttown Nolanaddedtwoeach team was simply taller and quicker and desp to tight defensive work they came out on top Vermeulen Vuk and Barry McNabb each potted six points in the Stewarttown used hustli and superior it topple a taller and Lancaster squad ir overtime and take the cham trophy home They were the biggest public school team seen in my life said Stewarttown coach Jim Ridley We had to Slay super defensive basket all to beat them Lancaster went out in front at point In the opening period oi the game bul kept chipping away at their lead pulling even at all by the final gun in the most exciting game the day The defence held Lan caster high scoring captain outside keeping him score less or the game They also used a this point I don t really think we have a team said Ian Campbell last year manager of the Rams I can say for sure but right now it look like it The team lost a little money last year about WOO and this makes it harder for this year If we had a sponsor it would be no problem said Camp bell The Rams raise funds by drawsandticketsales rather than approaching merchants In the town for money Minor system Lacrosse buffs In town are trying to get a minor lacrosse system going again this year This la not settled yet either but Bob Is hoping to go with three teams novice and bantam Many people connected with the sport felt last year the lack of success for the Junior Rams was caused by the absence of a minor system to train players Many Rams were playing for the first time In their life Turkosz is looking for a sponsor now and is also checking the possibility of a grant There are sweaters around that haven t been used for two or three year but they have to be found according to Turkosz He odds there are many people interested in helping but they have to see if there are enough kids interested If the kids don have to pay for the equipment that should help theorized Mike Ian Campbell Chris Sargent and Mike have alt indicated an interest in coaching for the minor system The operation Is still ten tative however Nothings been accomplished yet Everybody waiting Tor somebody else to make the first move Ram players If there is no team In Acton will have a few choices of where they will play next year The could play Tor or Oak villc said Ian Campbell Guelph Is a new entry In the Junior loop Senior team Another possibility for former Rams would be to play for the senior team in town if ft operates again this year Nothing was brought up at the Ontario Lacrosse Association meeting In November about entering the team in Intermediate play but will likely do what they did last year and arrange exhibition games the only difference would be they are starting earlier and would be able to get many more games in team in the tourney as their first game was a point victory over the consolation champs Rolling Meadows Andrew Brakel led the scoring In that game with points while Ash and Glen Scott each added six Centennial the other Georgetown entry In tourney swamped Martin Street 3 in their opening game but ran Into trouble in the second round when they faced Lancaster Lancaster took a lead in the first half as referees were not calling penalties boys hung In and pulled back to 27 at the gun High scorer for the Centen team was Jim Brown with nine points He also led in the Martin Street rout netting 10 points in that con test Hatcher added eight and Wayne Manuel con tributed seven Rolling Meadows reached the consolation finals on a 19 win over Fairview after dropping their first game to Stewarttown Brookville win was a 19 decision over Martin Street Organizer Rick drew praise from coach John for the tourney It Is the best one around Rick McArthur always docs a good Job there Dodds Brookvlile team reached the consolation finals farther than they expected to go The new gym was divided In half for the preliminary games and opened up for the two finals Both halves of the gym were packed all day and food was sold In the hall BROOKVILLE JUMPER wins the top at Eight teams took part in the Saturday s tournament Brookville reached ten game toumey consolation finals before bowing out Kevin keeps crown Junior Mens champ PRESSURE GAME eager keeps the pressure on his Stewarttown opponent during their second period matchup at Red and White Invitational Superior height gave Stewarttown the win and they went on to take the championship trophy for the day AIHL standings still tight Blow Press maintained their one point edge over Acton Terminal Warehouse as both teams were winners In Industrial hockey play this week The pressmen dumped 7 3 and ATW ex ploded for 11 points to topple Vans 114 Mike McMahon was the big gun for the prcMmon as he connected for three goals and an assist There were two three point men as Jeff collected three assists and Fred Crawford picked up one goal and two assists The other Blow press goal came from Ken Owens who also got an assist Evan Hayter threw In two assists and Mike Miller and goalie Rick Bonne tie each added singles High scorer for was Bob Jarre without a goal His two assists made him high point man for the team Goals went to Bill Fields George McPhail and Jim Mc Donald Tom Dickinson and Tim Mclntyre were credited with assists in the game Cut loose The ATW big guns cut loose when they met Vans Welding Sunday The second period was the big it saw push the puck past ncttendcr Dave Allen seven times Steve Bennett scored the only goal of the first period giving ATW lead They opened the second period with three goals In two minutes to take Five shooters collected two each Steve Bennett Henry Toebe3 Irwin Bruce and Cecil Stuckless Pete Morrison accounted for the other ATW goal Henry Toebes added four assists to his goals to wind up with six points Three assists went to both Morrison and Ir win while and Ted Saltz each added two Singles went to Bennett and Cooks ley All three Vans goals came from the stick of Bruce Gary Marsh mat his point total with three assists and Brian Lloyd Vlnce Thornton and Jim Hoggett each collected singles Way In race Cleaners stayed in the race for the top spot with their easy win over cellar dweller Hellers Bart Jacobs opened the scoring with a quick goal in the first minute of play taking It In unassisted Van Fleet tied It up from Steve Townsley two minutes later but Harry gave Cleaners a permanent lead from Larry Kirstncr and John McCulcheon Five different players then scored In a row for the Cleaners to put the game out of reach Ted Floyd Wilier Kistner and Gary Colton all pulled the trigger before Ken Sidney managed Hellers final goal from Jim Registering assists In the five goal burst were Jowett and Ernie Waller with two each and Jacobs McCutcheon and Floyd Wilier with singles AIHL standings SCOTT MALCOLMS DRIVE In the early part of Saturday Blades were tied up for two periods but cut loose in the final Blade game was thwarted by some good Blade stickwork to get the 63 win Curat I 1 1 I a I I For the second year Kevin Parker won the Junior Men Central Canadian divisional championship The skating competitions were held lost week at Winnipeg and ended with a thrilling standing ova for the 16yearold Brook area youth After winning in figures short program and finals Kevin took part In the parade of champions Saturday night with all the other happy winners He skated well and received a standing ovation as about roses were thrown out onto the Ice Kevin says competition was really keen and it easy maintaining his title He did better than last year when he placed third in figures This year he placed first in every area of the contest He was the youngest competitor of five He was away from Tuesday to Sunday He skated three days and did well each time he recalls Travelling with him was his coach John Caughcll of the Kitchener Waterloo club In the figures Kevin was awarded points ahead of John Thomas of St Calhar who had In Ihe short program both he and his friend Paul Mills were given 17 points but Kevin placed first because of the number of judges placing him first three as opposed to Paul Mills two In the finals Kevin won handily with 87 points overall while Paul Mills had It was a tough competition Kevin says Paul Mills did well too Paul and some of the other skaters are all friends of Kevin now Not only do they meet at compel but they skated to gether in the summer too In his free skating he did much the same routine as last year adding more to it For instance he only included one triple last year and this year he had four triples Both his coach and parents are very pleased he says As well as being happy at his victory Kevin also looks back on the competitions as a good time He leaves in two weeks for Victoria for the Canadian championships Last year he placed filth One of his main com is the Junior world champion Daniel dc Bel and of Quebec Daniel competes in both Junior and Senior classes while Kevin com petes In Junior Since he requires so many hours of practice Kevin haBn t been able to get to school at Acton high lately He in Acton arena about six hours a day perfecting his figures and routines Some times his coach is there with him I need all the work I can get says Kevin cheerfully He doesn t anticipate any trouble with school work It happened He just gets caught up when he goes back and the teachers help him he says He 11 get back the books after the excitement of the Canadian champions ps two weeks Friends followed the com petitions with interest and were pleased to see him on television last week RIGOROUS ROUTINE of training has required Kevm Parker to drop out of school for a few weeks The Acton high student fresh
