ways of raising money to support the Beavers Brownies Cubs Scouts and Guides II is these women who plan and serve the annual banquet to which many of the parents will bring youngsters This the expected lurnoul for banquet will be people and it seems to me more parents should take responsibilities when comes to supporting the efforts of the leaders and groups who spend countless hours Town Hall Restoration Committee report as being tasteless and tactless The Restoration Committee letter was signed by myself as Chairman and led Herald lo comment that I should resign my posi lion The accompanying letter which was sent lo the Georgetown Herald is a reply to Iheir editorial I feel that readers of all newspapers in Hills should be made aware of my reply since it explains my position In this matter Yours truly George Ellioll January 30 The Editor Herald Dear Sir Not being an individual who evades a challenge would like the opportunity of replying to your editorial of January 1 should hank you first of all since it is something of an honor in Acton to be ticked off by Ihe Georgetown Herald You have bestowed upon me a certain distinction Now let me reply lo your editorial ll has been stated the letter addressed to Council with my signature was in ex press ion of one man opinion It is true I wrote the first draft of the letter It was then considered a sentence at a time by the Restoration Committee and some changes were suggested and incorporated I pointed out Ihe Committee the final sentence is a fairly strong statement and asked if wished Included The Committee voted unanimously to retain The letter Council was therefore an expression of he feelings of the whole torn mittcc over the signature of its Chairm in If you read the letter carefully and I eommend this practice to wilt note It did not state the Hills Council was insensitive and dictatornl he reference was lo regional government in general with Hills being only one expression of it It is a fact some people In Acton do perceive of government In this way Denying the feeling exists is unrealistic The letter merely suggested that if Ihc Restoration Committee secured a reasonable pledged sum in Acton then a donation by Council in support of the restoration would prove lo such people that least Hilts is not insensiiue and dictatorial I think this a quite reasonable statement of the facts as they are It is strong unpalatable perhaps but undoubtedly In perhaps there is some eution for statement in the letler The Committee did request an inform il meet of some Councillors I- lo discuss how plans might be worked together tor the Town Hall lion and ihe ire Hall wis told no such meeting would be set up Where I eomc from that is insensilivity Before regional a would not be at ill unusual in Aeton In Council ignored concerns work of a Committee of their own creation up to Investigate problem and with out hi inn proceeded lo lake That mifchl be eonstrued as tori by some slop down from Chair in of the Committee lhal wis kind of on Town Hall was not one I originally to become d rectly involved in A sense of responsibi lily lo Aelon prompted me to take job and it has cut considerably into the
