the behavior of one group of boys on Mill St That portion of Mill St is one way perhaps to cut down on the I volume of traffic because so many school children use it to get to the I McKenzieSmith and M Z Bennett schools The street is wide enough for both pedestrians and drivers However when the pedestrian deliberately aligns himself with an oncoming car especially on our I streets it only results in bad news One driver reports driving on the street travelling about 20 miles an hour well within the speed limits Pour boys about or 13 were walking on the left hand side of the street heading towards the school Without any warning they all walked directly into the path of the car The driver managed to mano- euver around them However when this happened one young fellow actually threw himself at the car If the vehicle had not have been moving he would have hit the drivers door As it was he only succeeded in falling into the middle of the road Another car came along and he did exactly the same thing Whose fault would it have been had this youngster been hurt or even killed Whether or not the driver was exonerated from all he or she would still have been left with the guilt burden for an entire life Why did the boys charge the car Why did the one deliberately throw himself at it Was there peer pres sure Was it a dare Was he trying to act brave in front of the others In any case he was lucky he hit this time How many times is he going to play this kind of sian Roulette before the odds are against him Where is his common sense New addition to youth page Students go
