St Josephs holds public speaking contest The first annual public speaking contest Tor St Josephs separate school held last Tuesday February at the Scout Hall Six students were chosen from their classes to repre sent their classes In the school contest The winner from the grade five and six category and the winner from the seven and eight category represented St Josephs at the North Halton Public Speaking contest in Milton yesterday One overall winner was selected to repre sent the school in the separate school championships in Burlington tonight day In the grade seven and eight category was Totjana Frank and Jamie Taras Frank who won the school competition and went to the finals spoke on the importance of having a sense of humor His speech recounted many great comi cal men in show business and Franks own humor came through in his speech Jansen spoke on tho energy crisis and the pro blems people could face in the future Her use of humor the speech enjoyable well as informative Jamie took the fence though world of fan tasy in his speech vantages and advantages of a fantasy world were discussed Guide In his speech Winner In grade five and six category and representing St in the junior division at the finals was Kim Kim was also chosen as the overall winner who will re present the school In the separate school finals to night Kim did her speech on nur sery rhymes Her dramatic impersonations of various well known rhymes enter the audience Also in the junior division were Lynn Graham and Helen Lynn took her audience on a trip to the land of the sun Mexico her speech Helen did her informative speech on the topic of salt Her speech included some of many uses of the mineral and the plentiful supply available Two students from grade four took part in the competi tion Cathy Barrett and Debbie were able to gain the experience of speaking in a contest for future years Judges for the contest were Rudy Mrs Peggy Graham Mrs Margaret Maronesc and Mrs Carmcl Jim was the time keeper Regular meeting Leisure activities at 4H meeting CHINA was the topic for this group of Second Acton Guides Kelly Donna Evans Lisa Kuuter Dawn Cook and Marie Uniform and promise are different there Golden Agere supper meeting by Julie Pierce The third meeting of the Dublin North Hillbillies- was held last Wednesday at the home of Mrs Marion Hunter The meeting was opened with the pledge Then collec tion and attendance were taken This meetings discussion dealt with leisure activities Everyone first stated what hobbles they had and ones that they would like to meeting they sat around enjoying tea and snacks while working on their project The Golden Age Club had a pot luck supper for their evening meeting After the supper which was called for Mr Davidson
