Christian Book of Georgetown second Scott of Acton first and Victoria Rodriguez of Acton third Two Acton students were named champions the North Public Speaking Finals held at Martin St Senior Public School in Milton Tuesday Scott from Robert Little School In Acton placed first in Junior Com petition with his talk on Skiing Christian Book from School In Lime- house placed second and Victoria Rodriguez from M Bennett School In Acton came third They spoke on Survival and Books respectively Thirteen students in grades five and six took part in the contest and although there were only three winners they all received silver dollars for participating The speeches had lo be two to four minules in length and the students were marked on the delivery and content of Ihe speech and also on the overall Impression created Judges for the competition were Mrs Dunlop a Language Arts consultant Mrs a Remedial Resource teacher and William a Board of Education trustee from Milton In addition to the Barton spoke to dents about communicating with the deaf She illustrated some sign language and told students about some of the mclhods used in teaching and communicating with the deaf Janice has a and representing the school m Milton will he Victoria Rodriguez Victoria is in grade five spoke about books a very valuable and important form of en in our lives She was picked by her homeroom Mr Murphy to represent them in the school com petition Victoria wis in the Smith award on which her name will be added and kept in the school Victoria was also a book that she can keep in memory of her win In second place v as Johnston grade five student also in Mr Murphy did her hard hitting but speech on smoking Melanie says her father smokes but is trying to quit She was awarded a book on birds for her memory of the contest In third place in the contest was Janet Reese Janet did her speech on Canadi and the unity problem that she says we hear about every day is in grade four and was
