the great contribution that our police officers make within communities Prevent CrimeWorking Together is the theme used by the police this year and I believe it merits our support as con corned and Involved izens In todays society police officers arc much more than crime fighters As well is needing our police for law enforcement we need them to protect human life to guard properly and to help people in need take them for granted or we fall to support them In their efforts Throughout the year I hope citizens will consider their personal obligations in helping to keep up the high standard of policing have in Ontario are many such responsibilities Among make prompt Icalion to the police when Tools swiped A wooden loo box and contents were reported stolen by police last week after the box was taken from a parked truck behind the Acton IGA on Main North The tools belong Green ore Crescent man Hot spell at school Acton high students were sent home early Tuesday afternoon because of a problem with air lionlng system in the new school Technical problems made the school unbearably hoi for students and staff Teachers stayed at the school until the regular closing time ever a crime is seen or suspected to obey an officer directing traffic lo give moral and sometimes even physical support to the police in times of crisis Government programs for controlling crime arc unlikely However Informed private citizens playing a variety of roles tan a decisive difference in prevention detection and prosecution of crime a fair administration of justice and where possible the lion of offenders to com Crime prevention as each citizen duty is not a new idea In the early days of law enforcement hundreds of yeirs ago the pcice keeping stressed the concept of mutual responsibility Fortunately this citizen involvement in recent years Is yielding to more formed and direct citizen in prevention efforts people arc starting to exert crime prevention lever through those individuals they know persomlly and through organizations wllh which they ire affiliated Including trade associations educational institutions political parties unions charities found itlons profes societies service clubs a elected rcpresenta Our society is built upon the premise that each person Is responsible for himself and for the general welfare of others Exclusive reliance on a oriented roach to crime prevention causes individuals and family units to become isolated from Indeed citizen looking out for himself only there is no community no strength numbers but a frngamentailon tha can serve only to embolden criminal ments Let us support our police departments say Thjnk you for a job well done PIANOS TUNING LEE G TOCHER HILLSBURGH AUCTIONEERS Ron Lamb 843 Mike Kelly Guelph 822 YEARS
