twixt Hydro Minister While he interim report of the Royal Commission on electric power planing Is basically sound it contains certain flaws Its Inability to deal adequately with the question of utilization of waste water from nuclear power plants and lack of specific suggestions for reducing our electrical demands Liberal energy Julian Reed said this week I applaud Dr Porters recommendation that the provinces energy mix be diversified said Mr Reed This report provides the people of Ontario with another point of view based on expert knowledge to set against that of Ontario Hydro Whether the commission electrical growth rale fore cast of per cent proves to be accurate Is not as important as confirmation of the way in which we are moving The commission call for a strong move to serious conservation efforts and development of alternate energy sources supports a position which we in the Liberal party have always taken while reducing the amount of nuclear energy which will be required in Ontario the report is realistic in recognizing the need for a certain amount Charged A mail was charged this week following a disturbance at the restaurant If the scenario unfolds as the commission indicates which seems probable there will have to be some mental adjustment In the nuclear industry and a move towards alternate energy sources which will have positive and decentralizing effects on economic and technological development in Ontario Dr Porter recommend to reduce the number of megawatts of installed power by to the year compared to Ontario Hydro latest forecasts a very dramatic differential represents a saving in capital costs of some 14 billion We wholeheartedly support the recommendation that greater research funding be redirected from nuclear energy to the development of alternate energy sources While this Interim report provides the basis for a new look at electric power produc tlon in Ontario we must remember that it only makes observations It does not set does It explore the possibilities of specifically directed efforts therefore it can only have a moderating effect at best Reed says The commission will be valuable to the select committee of the legis lature on Ontario Hydro which will undoubtedly be more specific in its We must recognize that even if the growth projections of the commission are some what moderated in the on thi ahead it will be proof that Ontario Hydros la ions represent a biased point of view Steps must be taken immediately to bridge the chasm between hydro and the Minister of Energy In the past by its lacklustre per the government has permitted Ontario Hydro to run away with the pall The Minister of Energy should be responsible and accountable for Ontario Hydro No provincial minister has to date fulfilled that role in the true sense Reed claimed Parents concerned about their child development should consult their doctors Mrs Robinson advises Tinker Bell does accept and applications from parents however parents will be asked to have their child assessed by a physician If they haven t already done so The school also takes referrals from Toronto Sick Children s Hospital Crippled Children Centre public health
