water by pass What are the prime benefits of fluoride to a person over fifteen years of Need this source of fluoride be our water A concerned resident S 16 ltd Following is the text of a letter sent to the Globe and Mail and filed with The Free Press for publication October 23 Globe and Mail Gentlemen The tone of the Globes editorial of October Deadlock In Ha I ton Hills Is Irresponsible because of the absence of ob jective fact The Deadlock is not Just in Hills it also includes the people of the Region of Halton the people of East Garafraxa and some along the route from the Bruce Nuclear Station south to Milton and Windsor Keith Generating Stations plus others announced in Feb ruary The laying off of hundreds of em ployees will continue Clearly no one will freeze in the dark Thanks for cooperation Oct 23 1978 Georgetown Ont Letter to the Editor On behalf of and myself I would like to thank the Fire Chief and the Volunteer Firemen of Area No 1 Acton for the hospitality shown us at the official opening of the newly reconstructed Fire flail As chairman of the building committee for this addition I would like to express my sincere thanks for the cooperation I received from Chief Holmes and the Volun teers during the reconstruction I am sure that all the residents of Acton and District arc as proud of this fine facility as I am Cant afford another term Dear Mrs Dills Mr is a handsome dapper man who smiles disarmingly but we need more than Just another pretty face He Is a smooth politician and has care fully cultivated a high profile but It is an ineffective one He has run previously on empty emotional issues such as cutting back teachers salaries and board budgets These are irresponsible fairy tales in times of per cent inflation and when by the Boards own admission Costs per pupil in Halton have been among the lowest for Boards our size since In addition the percentage distribution of tax dollars for educational purposes for municipalities in Halton has decreased since 1969 in every municipality when compared with tax dollars gains for municipal purposes Board of Education Reports on Declining Enrol ment in Halton 19781982 page March 16 1978 also has the second highest pupil- teacher ratio in Ontario Mr Hintons grandstanding and ego trips have seemingly lost him credibility with the board and in view of his comment below his vast concern for public money is questionable Despite his objections Twinning Speyslde with Robert Little will mean a saving of only and to worry about that much money Is silly Acton Free Press he was overruled by the Board There is a saying that Mr Hlnton has been a strong unifying force on the Board it is unified against Mr He has tost credibility with teachers also by going into schools purportedly to investigate certain complaints put to him by parents but refusing to answer questions as to the nature of these concerns His statements are often inconsistent and lose him credibility with voters as when one reads in single article in your news paper 41978 that on one hand he says Middle schools are a real threat to small schools and on the other hand Mr emphasized that he thought the middle schools in North were fantastic and highly organized He has gained nothing for the area but seems to have only aimed to serve his own image This area cannot afford this representation for another term No independent agency has ever studied the necessity for this line This Includes the Solandt Commission the Environmental Hearing Board the Porter Commission Expropriation Hearings or the Ontario Municipal Board In point of fact no alter nate routes have ever been examined In dependently even though the Supreme Court of Ontario it Why the cover up Ontario Hydro has consistently stone- As the editorial states people ore indeed walled this order shocked and angered about a further per Your editorial criticizes Halton Hills t cent increase in hydro rates considering the They should be applauded It Is a credit to per cent increase in 197G and the the Town of Hills and other I per cent hike in 1077 These municipal governments involved in this issue that they take democracy seriously and are standing up for all the people s rights Remember that the opposing groups are not specifically blocking this line but have simply requested for five years that an independent review be conducted as has been provided to other regions in Ontario costs are directly attributable lo Ontario Hydros faulty planning in the early 70s when Hydro assumed that electricity con sumption would double in Ontario every ten years They set In motion a huge plan of ex of facilities namely the Nuclear Generating Program To finance this It was necessary to borrow billions of dollars In foreign capital interest alone reported to be one million dollars per day dollar Since more than a thousand megawatts of power has been flowing to Northern Ontario since 1970 Hydros own projections show it will continue for perhaps another fifteen to twenty years Why is a dollar transmission corridor Bruce to Milton being forced on the people of Southern Ontario when It is not required in its en tirety The continuing lies of Ontario Hydro must stop since Solandt did not Study the transmission line south from Bruce and it was finally admitted by Ontario Hydro in Lets put Report to bed once and for all Power will not be bottled up in Bruce and there is no evidence to suggest that it will In fact Ontario has the capability of taking all of the power out of Bruce for at least the next six years without the southern portion of this transmission line Ontario Hydro by their own admission are per cent over capacity at present- projected to per cent by 1980 and indeed ire now closing portions of the Toronto Is Hydro a juggernaut so powerful that it should override the laws of the Province of Ontario The editorial writers shotgun blast at the Interested Citizens Group the Ontario Municipal Board Hills and the government reflects the arrogant at of a runaway crown corporations attack on anyone who dares to question their actions Your editorial states if we eventually do freeze in the dark it will probably be the fault of us eastern bastards Who are the real eastern bastards Interested Citizens Group W J Mann Chairman Dear Editor Surely a town this size should have a qualified ambulance service within town limits If takes anywhere from to minutes from Georgetown or and logger in the winter whereas if there were one in Acton It would cut the time in half eliminating much misery and possible death Our taxes go toward a lot of new arenas etc and yet it could go toward a fully equipped ambulance and the salaries attendants or else tram the firefighters Although the Georgetown and Guelph ambulances do the best they can surely the town Is large enough to house its own ambulance This should be a concern to every citizen because an accident could happen to any one of us Lets get together ACTON and not take NO for an answer Several Concerned Citizens Dear God I remember years ago the miracle You performed which enabled my sister Evelyn to live a full useful life As I recall at the age of twelve Evelyn with our five brothers and sisters were swimming at the private beach at our parents cottage Evelyn complained to mother of her left leg feeling extremely stiff She was told to sit on the beach and rest for awhile However she became increasingly worse A day later Evelyn was completely paralyzed in both legs Upon the doctor consultation it was found to be Infantile Paralysis which results in being a paralytic for life Being only twelve years old she felt very depressed and victimized Having healthy brothers and sisters Evelyn questioned Why me as she was totally bedridden Five years passed with no improvement Mother upon hearing of a priest coming to our parish for a one week mission in desperation requested a visit to our home for a prayer to comfort us This Redemptorist priest visited our home and prayed with Evelyn A few days later while working down stairs Mother heard a noise from the floor above She then went to the bottom of the stairs not knowing what the noise could have been There at the top of the stairs on her own two feet stood Evelyn wilh only the stair railing for support Praise God To make a long and happy story short Evelyn was never physically strong but was able to hold an office job met Jim and they shared a long fulfilled married life until Evelyn reached her seventieth year Which was a gift You granted The medical profession said they did not understand it as she should have been bedridden for life Such recovery had never been recorded before We hear daily of the special work You do Thank You God
