Hospital Toronto William and Norman MeTague They were among World War One and Two veterans present Thirty years of safe driving were recognized when George of CampbelMlle re a plaque in tribute of driving dexterity The presentation was made at the Travelways Coach and Bus Services safety banquet at the Campbelivillc Lions Hal Inglls who is had been driving school buses until last September He received the award from his son Murray who is manager of the Travelways Georgetown division Sr hod at one time owned his bus company Transportation He sold it to the Norton Bus Line which in turn was sold to He was one of 44 school bus drivers honored for their safe driving George wife Marion was presented a pin recognizing 20 years of safe driving Oneliners in parliament The presentation was made by Doug Young safety officer Third in line for the longest record of safe driving of school buses was Mrs Iln of CampbeliviJle She has driven years with no accidents Willndscn of Acton came next He was his pin for years of safe driving Snyder of George town came next with a record spanning 13 years After him was Joan Hal stead of Campbelivillc who has had safe driving record of 11 years Murray also received a safety pin He has had 10 years of driving a school bus without mishap His award was presented by Young Two people received pins for nine years of safe driving They were Harold Allison and Elizabeth Inglis both from Jean Garbutt Mary Ann Martin Archie Mac Dona Id and Morrison all from the Georgetown area received pins- for eight consecutive years of George town and Joyce of Acton received pins for six years while Alice Johnson of Campbelivillc Hetty or Milton Vera Thatcher of Georgetown and Mary of Acton received pins in recognition of five- year records our pins were presented to Smith and Dorothy Hunter all from Georgetown as well as Jackie from Campbelivillc Thrceycitr pin went to Donna Caves Joanne Heath and Richard torsyth oil from Milton Also honored were Charlie Hubble and George Hall Col Brown dies at 90 VOTE AREA COUNCILLOR WARD 1 ACTOIM A well known resident of the area Colonel Gordon Brown died October in Brantford General Hospital at age Prior to his death he was the oldest living Lt Col in the Lome Scots Regiment A charter and life member of Branch 120 Royal Canadian Legion he was honored with a Legion service Sunday night He was born on the family farm on the Town I in 1888 He went over seas in 1914 and was wounded at the battle of St Julienne in and sent home He was stationed in various places as a recruiter during the First World War After the war he bought a farm In Stcwarttown I ere the original farmhouse still stands but now surrounded by houses A picture in the Hills administration office dated shows him with all the deputy reeves of Ha lion County but one local historian claims he was Esqucsing township clerk He was also sheriff of County in the late twenties and early thirties He was elected to the North High School Board now defunct then resigned to become secretary treasurer of the board from 1948 until 1959 He was also a member of the County Court of Revision and for a short time secretary of Georgetown High School board During the Second World War he was a member of the Veterans Guard and was stationed at prisoner of war camps Lt Col Brown was in charge of taking the Inst botch of bock to England in 1940 On his return he was demobilized from the army He was member of Stewart town Orange Lodge the Masonic Lodge and was the Peoples Warden at St Georges Anglican Church He was married to the late Mary Eileen Barber in and by his wife the former Whitney Two brothers a sister predeceased him Norman operated a bakery in George town and George had an insurance business in Norval His sister was Mrs Gertrude Lindsay of Acton He is survived by a niece Irene Mrs service was held at the Shoemaker funeral home Acton on Monday October 30 The Rev A McKenzic of Acton legion con ducted the funeral
