In Acton in the past 22 years is that the vast majority of people are not employed in the town according to Rev A lot of people eat and sleep here but have not been integrated in the community life The physical appearance changed also he says The minister explained that when he first arrived Glenlea subdivision was only one quarter done and Lake view about half way completed Since then K Ingham and Bo vis have sprung up as well as ribbon development on the country roads There has been a tremen growth in the number of organizations clubs and associations both socially and recreational connected with people s interests Rev McKenile pointed out The only service clubs In town years ago he said were the rotary and the Men Now there are also the Lions and the newly formed Optimists There arc also more groups In town which do charily work for such causes as Muscular Dystrophy Multiple Sclerosis the March of Dimes Arthritis Cancer Red Cross and the Blind With all these tilings going on around us church has to compete with the people Interests and time Rev admitted As far as the church is concerned we are in a more competitive time than we were formerly blames the apathy of the 1960s for the decline of the role of the church There was a disinterest in hi church religion and all other Institutions Our way or lire was being reexamined at the time However now there Is a definite swing back to the church While in Acton Rev has officiated at weddings 120 funerals members 24B others Baptisms 472 children and adults and received new members into Knox church Of the 335 weddings he has performed to percent of the couples are still married He blames immaturity for marriage breakup One mature person can ruin marriage but two immature people can wreck it fast he says In
