Round Robin by Robin Inscoe Let give some credit where credit 13 due A few years ago when attended Acton High School we had the usual sporting activities and competed against other Hal ton schools Last week Acton High boys basketball history was made The midget beat A Blakelock It may not seem so great but only a few short years ago the basketball teams would come back from playing a league game In happier than punch If the Tigers t beaten them by a hundred points Hard work and early morning practices have paid off for the Cagers They are now a small force of their own The junior this year won a Brampton tournament and fell In the final of their own The midgets are walking over all exhibition competition including several teams from their own league The Junior girls team too was ranked near the top of league action being upset In the playoffs by Georgetown The midgets who failed to win a game two seasons ago fell just short In their playoff drive in the season past Thanks to teachercoaches like Rick McArthur Rick Boychuk Anne and McLaren Acton High School has same teams they can be proud of and they be ashamed to walk into again Although they won play an allstar game this season the Central Ontario Junior Hockey League has taken a big step in pursuing opportunities for future years The league decided that it will this season select oil star teams from the team league The league will be divided into two divisions the Northeast and the Southwest Joining the Sabres in the Southwest division will be Streetsvllle Burlington Oakvillc Milton and Georgetown Leaving Onlha Barrie Oak Ridges Brampton and Dixie supplying the Nor thcast Each club will nominate six players one at each position and a coach and manager at which point the teams will make their votes with the top point getters at each position getting the nod as the first team selections Runner at each spot will carry the title of the second team The one rule Is that teams cannot vote for their own players Being in the same division as teams such as Streetsvllle and Burlington the Sabres will be for tuna to have any players selected to the team Best possibilities from Acton standpoint would be Jeff Shields and goal tender Rob Shields competition includes the leagues top two scorers Frank of and Mike Carr of the Burlington Cougars not to mention Paul Cook Brampton top scorer last season now with Street and Rod Gooding of Milton may have it a easier than Shields Mitch Love rock of Burlington and Jim Lockhurst of Streetsvllle should be his main competition but Brad Miller of Georgetown and Ian Roberta of have been around a few years too Other Sabres nominated include defenceman Jamie Ryan and Brad Buchanan and wingers Kelly Shaw and Kelly If there was to be a game this season the Southwest would be tough to beat Burlington and Oakville are the op three teams in the league and should with or without the help of Georgetown Milton and Acton be able to come out on top In an allstar game Maybe next year the teams can square off Guelph Oidtimers will be in town on Friday December to play an exhibition game with Waterloo The Guelph team has some of the names Acton Tanner fans may remember Harold Townsley will be in the lineup for the Royal City along with Jim Sweeney Jim Farley and Howie and Doug Evans Game time at the Community Centre will be 10 pm I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year To all those who have looked after correspondence for various organizations and groups over the past five months that I have
