10 The Acton Free Press Wednesday April 25 1979 Robert Little Acton Com mil tee chairman of the Ontario Heart Fund Vic present Stewart of the Ontario Foundation with a cheque lost week The presenta tion made at he Bank Montreal 4350 raised by Acton heart fund Acton heart fund can vassers have once again surpassed their cam goal this year by over Canvassers were out knocking on doors in February with their Bights set at more than they raised last year However by the end of the campaign they had raised in addition the they received from In from January to April A break down of the do nations during the special month is from residential can from com mercial section from industrial section from the voluntary sale of roses from the rural area and returned from headquarters in Toronto Hie In have been received either at Shoemaker Funeral Home or through El ma of Acton Home Miss tends the do nations lo Toronto and keeps track of all funds Anyone wishing to make In donations Unfortunate if planning left to fund dispensers Dear The recent articles regarding support for social services In North pro vide a shocking example of negative vicious circle There seems to be ample indication that this area is in need of an full time competent counselling agency supported by funds appears thai the very population that needs a socioeconomic boost is unable to acquire it We arc not living in an age in which social awareness is just beginning to dawn however our regional back creates an unnecessary culture shock for many residents who experience all the problems of modern limes but are without modern re sources to maintain a healthy balance Having been a professional in the be haviour consulting field for many years I can assure the region that the paltry sums offered for a shoestring social agency In our area are very likely to attract competent and live professionals or to establish any credible selling for the delivery of vices The token response to social and psychological needs is sufficiently un enlightened that it may encourage some people to think that the issue is unimportant I do not hear of many residents voicing their concern but this docs not indicate that everything is rosy Could il be that a feeling of help lessness and powerlcsiness to influence government decisions has already set in This in itself would be a clear tor of he kind of behaviour that I assume is not on the list of criteria for healthy development of our region It would be most unfortunate if our social planning were to solely or ultimately only in the hands of people whose main expertise lies in the distrl button of funds rather than In the ap propriate application of resources to meet non fiscal human values and needs At the moment it looks as if the post Industrial era is a little slow in coming to North Yours truly Roger Johnston Acton Authority comment The Hills Park ing Authority will be asked for their comment of parking regulations governing the Trinity United Church parking lot Clerk Administrator Ken in a report to general com mittee Monday evening slated It has been the understanding of staff that one of the original Interests in leasing the lot was to make more avail able to shoppers on street parking by ac commodating longer term parking in the church lot The report went on to suggest changing the limitation of hours to be tween midnight and may call her at or Vic at 853 A campaign such as this is only made possible by unselfish of many people says or ganiier Vic especially the door to door canvassers who knocked on many THE ECONOMY MOST CANADIANS WANT TO OWN A HOME OF THEIR OWN Over million Canadian families now own their own home Many of them have made sacrifices in order to do so Many more Canadians would like to own a home Inflation and higher taxes make home owner ship more and more difficult for the average Canadian THE PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE PARTY BELIEVES THAT CANADIANS WHO WISH TO OWN HOMES SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED The purchase of a home is their biggest investment in Canada for most Canadians We believe that it is a good investment and we want to encourage Canadians to make it THE PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE PARTY PROGRAM FOR MORTGAGE INTEREST AND MUNICIPAL TAX DEDUCTIBILITY Mortgage interest payments of up to 5 per year will be made deductible from federal income tax These deductions will apply only to interest paid on a first mortgage on a pnncipal residence and to taxes on that residence The program will be phased in over the first four years of a Progressive Conservative government In the first year 25 of mortgage interest and municipal taxes would be deductible in the second year 50 in the third year 75 and in the fourth year 100 HOW THE PROGRAM HELPS CANADIANS The cost of home ownership will be reduced The average family of four wtlh an income of 17000 a mortgage of 30000 and a property tax bill will save 225 the first year and over in the fourth year An economists report on the proposal estimates that 230000 more Canadians would be homeowners if the program had been started in 1974 Increased demand for homes will lessen pressure on apartments and help keep rents down HOW THE PROGRAM HELPS CANADA Homebuilding is an activity which stimulates the Canadian economy Almost all the material and all of the labour for new homes is Canadian The industry estimates that the PC program will result in 25 00030 000 extra homes per year Those extra homes mean over 100000 manyears of direct construction work to a group whose unemployment rate this year has reached 20 The homefurnishing landscaping and other home related largely Cana dian industries will create other new jobs DONT LET THEM KID YOU Trudeau and the NDP claim that the plan would help only the Consider that if you are a homeowner or would like to be and the obviously think that you are nch Thats one reason why and the NDP don t worry much about the level of federal taxes They think that you can afford their kind of government MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE The Progressive Conservative Party believes that by helping individual Canadian homeowners it helps Canada You can help by voting for the Progressive Conservative candidate in your riding HALTON ou candidate is OTTO WELLINGT0NDUFFERINSIMCOE PERRIN BEATTY lets get Canada working again
