Sunday afternoon with two of their three scheduled matches Family Cleaners were the first winners of the industrial season as they lopped Con struct ion in the game of the year Chuck strikeouts led the Cleaners to a 74 win Need umps Acton Umpires Association is look Ing for people to act as umpires for Minor Ball throughout this summer According to umpire Gary the addition of several new minor teams in town has put umpires at a minimum Anyone wishing to volunteer their time to helping the minor ball as an umpire may do so by calling Mr Bruynat853 2943 Well attended I must give my heartiest congratulations to those people who showed up at the Acton Community Centre on Sunday afternoon to sit in on the Acton Minor Hockey annual meeting and election of officers In the minutes of the previous annual meeting secretary Fran McKmght announced that there had been people in attendance at the 197079 annual event Sunday there were over interested persons there It was nice to see so many faces at the meeting both who I know and don t know The faces I know I have seen around the arena for a number of years and those I know means that the parents of the younger players have taken the opportunity to become familiar with the ways and means of Acton Minor Hockey With an interest like that shown at the annual meeting the Acton Minor Hockey s new executive has things to look forward to Track meet Acton High School students will be competing at the Track and Field Championships at Centennial Stadium this coming Friday I know what the competition is like at such an event and with opposition of the Oakviile schools not to mention powerful Georgetown I wish all Acton High students the best of luck and hope that they can bring back a few first place finishes Soccer begins Acton Minor Soccer is once again ready to kick off a new season League play begins next Monday and from then on Monday through Thursday the soccer fields at Middle School and Prospect Park will be busy
