The Acton Free Press Wednesday JuJy25 IrWDUG wi th JENNIFER Charlotte is a woman of conviction She believes strongly the Lord has called her to preach in India and she is moving heaven and earth to fulfill her belief restricted family finances she and Leo are raising five children from 18 Charlotte has managed to interest enough sponsors to finance two missions to India for herself and feels they bare changed her life and touched many of the Indians she visited As a registered Pentecostal minister affiliated with several churches Charlotte received the call more than a year ago from an Indian minister fa Vlxak India she and her husband are supporting The people of VUak wanted ber to visit them and hare her preaching At the time a member of a Missionary Pent Church Mrs interested in limited sponsorship The remainder of the funds was donated by friends and local merchants With fare assured Charlotte made to spend the month of July 1978 In India and was so enthralled with the country and the people she managed to find sponsors for another mission this past March Warmth and love Mrs says she found India a place of She had nothing but good experiences and speaks highly of the protection she received as a missionary under toe auspices of both the Pentecostal and Baptist Churches In India They were very understanding They protected me like a flower and gave me the freedom to grow he comments They enjoy Christianity In a way In India that It Is not enjoyed here She found India a place of poverty but not depressing They don know about the things we call civil lied The middle class would live in a one or two room hut cook over a fire and wash clothes by beating them on a rock The poor might live In a hut of palm fronds with a fire In the middle and no sanlt Buttheyarehappy Yet Charlotte found the nonChristians weighed down by hopelessness In their poverty but not so with the Christians Chriitiam are much more dedicated here than here Visited lepers Visiting with the families of ministers and getting to know the people were some very Important byproducts of Mrs trips The two main areas of mission were Karalla off the southern tip of India and VUak off the Bay of Bengal The purpose of the mission was to reinforce the work of the church in India and to bring God Word as a visiting preacher Mrs Marchment says she dcesn t pretend to fee she could change things to India but by underlining the work of the church Christian church with a Pentecostal and Baptist slant she says she is doing God s Will and answer Ing call She even visited leper colonies and had very Charlotte Marchment preaching convening with and meeting the residents brought back photos that would shock you and It hard to appreciate In our safe secure world the ravages of the worlds most feared disease Charlotte says she dldn t nave to go beck In time or visit the Holy Land for a look at timesIt was all there for her In present day India As a woman she found herself accepted even In churches where women seemed the background But In most cases she found women active in church government and management It la considered the mothers role the home to be totally responsible for the religious upbringing of the children In India So it 1 that Indian women are allotted a major role the church However when she conducted women meetings preaching with the aid of an Interpreter as throughout the whole trip she found the woman shy and reticent to come forth with questions or opinions The beat was intense degrees In March of this year sanitation and creature comfort very un like those at home yet Mrs says the bent Over backwards to make ber com They treated me so well They found out what kind of food I liked they were very concerned about my health she remarks A backward country They put us to shame Feed foe thought Only two per cent of the population of India Is Christian so the Christian Church has a large Job to do if they wish to add membership According to ber the ministers are very dedicated shepherds who take their Job seriously visiting parishioners at least once a week Food provided a drawing card for visitors to meetings In some areas Meals doled out to the needy at the end of each service brought many peo ple to the church It was the same in the leper col Charlotte says However the church is grow Ing meeting places springing up all over India It was to support this growth that Mrs March went to India and it for this purpose she llketogoagain She hopes to go on another mission to the big cities of India within the next year If she can raise the funds and find sponsors Charlotte has a goal and Is every bit as dedicated to that goal as the ministers in India she so admires Mission work and bringing God word according to Pentecostal preaching to the people of India Is tha goal Mrs Marchment is determined to fulfill It Toronto firm moves to town A Toronto property management and con sulting firm is relocating their
