were the two oldest students there The next reunion was planned for five years from now until it was dis covered the schools 100th anniversary Is In three years They now plan to meet in 1982 Former teachers on hand for the occasion were John Pell Mrs Merle Kirkness Mrs Swit Mrs Anna Gordon Aitken Miss Muriel Burns Simpson Vera Hurst and Mar garet Young The school was first constructed in 1BS0 Tidbits of historical in formation were pub lished In a brochure for Includcdinil the booklet was a brier recent history Lome School became part or School Area the end of 1940 and closed Us doors 1959 under the School Board The stud ents from the Lome area then attended the new School under a new Halton County School Board System When Lome School part or the quesing School Area in 1949 there were no longer three trustees but one representative to the board The three men who held this position were Dav idson William Dobbie Eramosa library notes and Clarence Coles When the Township of Board was ab sorbed into the County Board of Education each municipality had one re presentative on that board Fallowing the closing of the school sealed of fers were received on the sale of the property It was purchased by the Jehovah Witness who were in great need of a meeting hall Within a very short time the vac ant property was severed from the school building and the Jehovah Witness sold the school building as soon as they had com pleted building a new Kingdom Hall on the sev ered lot The school building was ogam resold and at present it is the residence of Mr and Mrs A Lome School has been converted Into an attractive home on a nicely landscaped lot Among the later graduates of the school are farmers auct ioneers teachers steel workers garage mech anics business ad ministrators carpenters real estate brokers electricians as well as veterans of the Second World War and mem bers of the Canadian Mil itia Lome School got its name from the Marquis of Lome who was Governor General of Canada when the school was built Those on the planning committee for the day were McPhail iitier Joan Holmes Jack Holmes Bill Nelles Ruth Mac- Donald Holmes June Watkins Doberthein Dorothy Allen and Blair West Several telephone calls were received from stu dents who could not make It to the reunion The nic est surprise came however when at the end of the day Ste wart phoned from Calgary to wish the event well Dave Wright of Erin hopes to carry the prov incial Liberal banner In the next election Mr Wright announced he will seek the partys nomination for the Wellington- DuffcrinPeel riding A nomination meeting is slated for October Two years ago Mr Wright as the liberal candidate came second to Tory Jack Johnson in the provincial election Other Liberals in the running for the can didacy are Erin Reeve Larry MacKeniie and Draytons Elbert van Donkersgoed By naming a candidate in October the party hopes to be ready well In advance of an election THE REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF
