Sabres look sharp despite 128 setback As a result of an exhibition hockey match between Acton and on Sunday November an upset Acton fan sends this letter TO THE EDITOR Dear Sir I would like to make a few comments on a hockey game played Sunday in Acton between Acton Minor Bantam Rep team and a Guelph team I am not sure whether it was Guelphs County team or a Rep team Before the game a gentle man came past our ticket seller and told her in impolite words what she could do with her tickets and that he would not pay her He was later seen on the bench presumably the coach All he had to say was I m the coach and he would not have been charged anyway If a coach shows no respect for any one neither will the boys so it should have been no surprise when after the game as the Guelph team was leaving the ice to hear some of the remarks censored with appropriate gestures coming from the boys directed to the people in the stands This game started out to be a friendly exhibition game with good hockey on both sides for a period and half then it very quickly degenerated into a mess I relize a Guelph boy was hurt and carried off the ice on a stretcher and I hope he is not too seriously injured I hate to see this happen in any game to any team I have no boy playing for either team so I am not biased or a prude but the etreme unsportsmanlike con duct displayed in this game was ridiculous These boys are only years of age and I feel these actions are not an accurate representation of our town or their city If my son had been involved he would be taken off the team immediately A Concerned Hockey Parent Mrs Smith 221 Mason Blvd Acton OnLL7JlA7 The game was a rough contest with several infractions resulting over the period of the game At least one match penalty was called against the Guelph side For those who are not aware of a match penalty s severity it could en tail anywhere from a one game suspension to in some cases life Mrs Smith and I assume many other parents feel the same way about this and other circumstances like it Unfortunately some of the teams Acton will play against have not been taught on ice etiquette or at least dont display it Not knowing what other teams are like can cause problems in similar situations I am sure Acton coaches and players try to stay away from such incidents When the Acton Sabres take to the ice against the Milton Flyers on Satur day December it will be a special promotional night The Sabres have dubbed the night Minor Hockey Night Any minor hockey player Legion or Waterloo- Wellington attending the game with a parent will be admitted free In addition the game should be Both the Sabres and the Flyers have been seesawing around the bot torn of the Central Ontario Junior league all season Last week Milton upset
