Optimist club held their annual oratorical contest Friday evening at middle school Two contestants from each Acton and area sen participated with the winners coming from St Joseph and Stewart town Subjects were varied this year ranging from Kim speach on the Olympics to Amy talk on child ren with separate par to Anthony Walton timely topic of the energy crisis Cliris talked of while Shannon Lindsay spoke about the future Martha Arm strong talked about she is familiar with women s Dana Richardson Just returned from Florida and told of ney World while Scot Nowlan spoke of a more grim subject poverty and crippling and con diseases David Ruse looks forward to the new decade in his speech on the s and Vranic discussed pigeons as a hobby The two winners Kim in the girls division and Mark Arm strong in the boys spoke of the Olympics and Canadian former en species respectively Runners up were Mar tin Armstrong and Dana in the girls category and Scott In the boys Each contestant rec cued a plaque and medallion while the win trophies will be dls played at their schools Kim and Mark will go on to the zone champion ship in Burlington next month Judges for the contest each received a plaque for their participation The judges were Chapman Gord Chap man timekeeper Joan and Inspector Matt McPherson Sounds of Joy Singing for Joy during Sunday nighl special service the Knox
