Explorers A former Acton officer and Georgetown resident who pleaded guilty to thelt charges re cently has been given a condl tonal discharge Roy Wood former Peel Regional Police detective was charged last summer with the Iheft of about of merchandise which was being tared in tho pro perty room of a Missis police station He pleaded guilty to the charge and col vletcd County Court Judge Frank Dunlap handed down the conditional discharge last Wednes day Wood must undergo psychiatric counselling as part of his one year period of probation At his trial psychiatric evidence was Introduced which lead the Judge to conclude Wood was trapped in a male men mid life crises I make no brief for police officers but I interpret what went on in July a for help from a man plagued by influences which his Judgement Judge Dunlap sold Wood was described in court as a broken man separated from his wife in conflict with his daughter Kim he suffered two heart attacks during the past decade was distressed by his sister battle with and was badly injured in a serious car accident in reviewing the psychiatric evidence Wood was so ridden with guilt and an he did something illegal so he would be caught and punished Wood was vacationing In England when the theft was discovered and the goods recovered during a raid of his Georgetown home He returned to Canada voluntarily only after extradition proceedings were started The stolen goods included a color sion camera clothing and household items and had been seized by police in a raid of a suspected shoplifter home Wood was described as a model police and friends at their annual Daffodil Tea All of the Explorer girls aged to 12 years were kept busy serving tea sandwiches and desserts as over attended The girls had decor ated the hall with brightly colored paper flowers and beautiful fresh- picked daffodils Door prizes were won by Jason Meyers George and Susan Moore Edith Hilfmon RR 3 Acton was the lucky winner of the cake which hod been
