Hamilton Teachers College So many decisions were based on what was Arlenc comments Two years at teachers college gave Arlene a diploma she started teaching back at Robert Little married the boy next door Bob Bruce and dutifully produced two children a girl and a boy Revolution In 1971 was teaching grade at Z Bennett living in the house that Bob built on the Fourth Line north of Highway and watching Susan and Gordon grow to high school age I was exhausted I never saw Bob my life was wrapped up in school and I needed a break She quit Looking forward to spending time at home baking and having meaningful conversations with her children Arlene found herself going into a slump as she discovered her family were doing fine without her constant care I had no special abilities I do anything but teach says Arlene describing her distress She forced herself to participate in things requiring little head work She played tennis got back to her sports and became more Involved with churchTrinity United A course at Sheridan College on new for women got her head going again and one thing led to another Not content to sit at home baking chocolate chip cookies and gaining weight Arlenc took on the job of Sunday School supervisor and became of the visitation committee I found I could work at something and get enjoyment out of It My life had revolved around doing things for other people now I was doing something that was fun for me used to think the only good feelings came from other people a I know differently Arlene states Struggling through the growth step women always are she grins took up yoga went to programs and read reams of books In an effort to expand her mind still more she audits high school classes and is currently taking grade 12 chemistry She also found time to organize private group of tennis club friends she treasurer of the Acton Tennis Club to sponsor a Vietnamese immigrant family the first for Acton this past summer After her election In March as Trinity Board Chairperson she says I realized I could have a life of my own which was pretty heady stuff for me Commenting on how supportive husband Bob has been Arlene gives him credit for
