doom and gloom at the Acton Minor Hockey Association annual general meeting Sunday at the Community Centre Twenty people attended the meet Association despite a successful year is in debt thanks to both inla and some thieves who broke Into the arena last summer and stole worth of goal tender equipment fee fees took a large chunk out of cash re ceipts reported treasurer Joan them a whopping 14 ment cost another while referees cost S3 Meanwhile the collected from registration and more than COO from sponsors other sources hey have 13 in the bank that belongs to the Club she said and added We re broke So does anybody want to make a don President Bruce Carglll said although the goal tender equipment was insured they only collected from the agency while it cost Si to replace it This summer lo added the executive will attempt to rent room at a local warehouse for storing equipment As for the debt he said I guess we should have put registration up this year but don like raising our rates Still our co arc going up too To offset the debt he added the AMHA I as no alternative but to raise rates this fall We t figured out the increase yet Carglll said but it will be close the ice increase Icecostsmay hour With more games scheduled and fewer he said the Association can t absorb the increase Other than that Cargill added I dont have any good news He said on will be moved to August in order to have teams ready for an earlier start in the season Coaches will know who they are and teams they will direct by the end of June Lady reglstra should help them choose teams Cargill He added the Association spoken with the Legion Minor Hockey Association who runs the registration but said if they don t want to move up the date the AMHA will go it alone The other major change has Acton competing against stronger teams next season although they remain in the Mantle division of the Hub leagu Carglll said league organizers In their wisdom felt Acton to be one of the stronger centres so they were moved to a higher caliber league They will be playing second second Preston and Waterloo second Fergus and New Hamburg have moved to the Division along with Gait second Kitchener Green and Kit White The top division In the league Newton Division has Gait Kitchener second ford Woodstock and Woolwich In the Mantle teams play a home and home interlock schedule with the Newton division as well as each team within their own division three times for a total of games Carglll reported that both Fergus and were unhappy about the change In divisions but added he t think he would hear any complaints from Acton teams about not playing New Hamburg As far as staying in the Hub league Car gill said he feels it is a far better than although there is more travel Involved Last season was the first Acton was in in the Hub league Six out of eight teams advanced to the championship game Both Cargill and vicepresident Herb Dodds said there would be no coming in the amount of playoff games played although Hub league playoff structure could change Dodds said rlgl now the league is looking at the top four teams in division entering the best five semi finals with the two winners meeting on championship day Under this system however he said several teams could be knocked out of action as early as February if they also lose OMHA playoffs He said many other centres are also unsatisfied with play of structure so it moy change But he stressed they would definitely not have round robin Continued on Ticket prices rise Inflation hits 500 Club The Acton Minor Hockey Association AMHA is going ahead with their proposed changes to the fund raising Club draw they announced at the general meeting Sunday Instead of five draws a week for 30 weeks for with a trip to Hawaii as the grand prize the Association is going with their second proposal to give away a car and continue with two weekly elimination draws for for weeks As expected ticket prices will increase to president Carglll said though the Club Is a popular lottery every ticket has been sold this year the system Is outdated The cost of operating minor hockey in Acton has risen along with everything else and the lottery the AMHA major money maker wosn covering costs The Association is more than in debt this year Carglll said a committee was set up to revamp the Club and make it more in te rest They came up with two proposals The first was to make the draw a onenight affair along with a combination dance and Monte Carlo night The second which has been adopted was to continue with the weekly draws They presented the to the public through an article in the Acton Free Press March asking for response But bald although there was a little opposition to the extra per ticket there was no real public outcry In fact he said they only I from one person who wis to keep the weekly draw The new system will put an extra 4 in the kitty Carglll reported which wilt en able the Association to keep the increase in registration from skyrocketing He also pointed out the prize value Is almost doubling keeping lottery a bargln The number of tickets sold will remain at but there was discussion of paylngona two or three installment plan Constitutional changes adopted The Acton Minor Hockey Association ad opted 19 new items to their constitution during the annual general meeting Sunday at the Community Centre All proposed items were unanimously voted in by the 20 people as well as the executive who attended The first amendment changed the term Waterloo- Wellington the now defunct league to AMHA In all appropriate places A ninth Item was added to page one saying no team official shall enter into financial arrangements of any kind without the consent of the president Criteria for election of the executive has been changed slightly To be elected president a person the AMHA executive directors included for at least one year In the previous three years The Association also moved any Interested person may contest any position on the proposed slate of officers Previously anyone opposing had to suggest an entire new slate However anyone contesting must notify the secretary in writing at least 14 days before the annual meeting so she may advertise their intentions In the newspaper The executive proposed slate of officers is published three weeks prior to the annual meeting More changes Include registration rules All players must now pay the full AMHA registration fee before ploying the second scheduled game Before the change the constitution only stipulated midgets and juveniles must pay full fees before playing one game The Association also put the onus on both the team manager and treasurer to collect playing fees and to ensure players in debt to the do not play or practise Other changes There will be only one contact person since Hub league recognizes only one person but they may appoint an assistant with the approval of the executive The contact person must be notified of all exhibition games to be played at home and or away at least two day3 in advance where possible Any team eliminated from OMHA playoffs will still get their hour of ice time for practise under a new rule The Association contact person Herb said he felt it unfair to take away ice time since the placrs paid registration fees like everyone else He said it would not add to scheduling problems although it is an extra expense Under the old ruling when a team was eliminated from playoffs one hour of ice time would be cancelled and reverted to the AMHA for disposition by the Contact Coat I duties and responsibilities now Include upgrading his skills and knowledge taking advantage of all materials and aids as provided by the OMHA and said although the Association is working with volunteers they are making this compulsory as possible But he added the rule wos to give coaches Incentive to upgrade his skills The team trainer no longer exists Since the lias changed its rule allowing assistant coaches the ward trainer In the AMHA on used to represent assistant coach is obsolete Tl secretary Is responsible for proces sing all insurance claims and carrying out all
