hunt I would like to congratulate Mrs Kilmer and Mrs on their super an hunting publicity which has delayed approval by council or this year deer hunt Their reasons for getting a delay are not always valid and in fact there is at least one total error contained In their statements that would not be recognized by the majority of peo ple I take Issue with Mrs Martland who says quote she was walking through the woods near her home and found a camouflaged hunter sitting up a tree with a cross bow this was at the end of November long after tho ministry deer hunt con eluded November The legal archery season did not end until the middle of December The picture of the two ladies holding up a NO Trespassing sign which was shot at by some Idiot appears to be shot at with relatively small size shot indicating that this was not done by a deer hunter since deer hunters use large shots or slugs The ladies quote the Ministry of Natural Resources concerning their lack of information about the exact numbers of deer Our club was asked to provide a dozen or so men beat through to determine the exact number of deer in that location As far as all the figures concerning the increase in automotive traffic of course that Is self evident It is also well known that anybody who takes an interest in the deer population knows that for every deer killed by a cor there Is one that probably gets away in a bush and dies later In keeping with the ladles contempt for the deer I assume this Is OK Contempt for decr I mean exactly that The ladies In question seem to feel that coy dog ting deer is perfectly acceptable although it is for the some dogs to run sheep etc I wonder what gives the ladies the right to make that Judgement could it be they have a vested in in cattle the old mighty buck strikes again Have the ladles ever witnessed dogs running a deer The ladles quote Mr Bill Johnson saying he property Thelogieof one ant hunter quoting another hunter is beyond me Its Just like a hunter seeing deer In every bush Obviously both statements would be suspect If you ask any farmer the majority of them will be aware that there are in fact a surplus or deer although or course when they don t direct ly hit the pocket book then perhaps it doesn t matter to tie majority of them Only when large amounts of damage are done do farmers usually start to get upset Perhaps the ladies would like to make a donation to all the farmers who do have crop damage done The Guelph Hod and Gun Club have an active hunting section and they hunt on property which abounds with deer One of the farmers on the property of which wo hunted was very upset because not enough deer were taken from his property In point of fact the hunting group from Guelph Bod and Gun Club each carry a million dollars hunting insurance and to the best of my knowledge have always been welcomed back to the property where hunt with In spite of what the two ladies say all hunters are not bad hunters The statement that many farmers have had their livestock shot at is open to question Certainly hone of the farmers that we hunt at have this happening As far as tho suggestion that the government has professional hunters super idea of course it may cost the taxpayers a few more million dollars but what the heck all hunters are idiots according to people like Bill Johnson and the two ladies guess I could go on and on since there are so many statements made bv the ladles but I feel I have said enough and think I have proven that logic Is not always what It appears to be Yes there arc too many deer in yes we doneedadeerhunt coy dogs or disease to control our deer Yours sincerely President of Rod and Gun Club Urge people support hunt Dear Sir Once again the suggestion of a deer hunt has produced a rash of instant wildlife experts Sud denly the Ministry of Natural Resources Biologists have taken leave of their senses and local deer population must be rescued from certain extinction or at least mutilation by the onslaught of inept hunters What is surprising is the Council would on the objections of two residents fail to side the necessary approval for the hunt in spite of the Recommendation of both the Ministry of Natural Resources and their won committee The instance of a deer with its face blown apart having itself citizens back yard bas been given as an example of what will happen if last years hunt Is repeated My Information is this Incident occurred some four or five years ago within the limits of the city of Guelph This of course would have been in a period when no legal t was being heed Since there were few incidents of problems with hunters during the lost hunt it is obvious those persons owning properties of sufficient size to know hunting experienced few difficulties Most of the objections as in the case of the two ladles In question come from those former ur ban dwellers who own small lots or acreages in the rural area These people obviously oppose hunting and arc trying to prevent a deer hunt even though he deer head is of sufficient size to war ant a controlled hunt The statements of careless hunters who shot cows just doesnt hold water Cows are shot by peoplesteallngbcef Since the majority of farmers the Ministry of Natural Resources and the regional planning and Public Works committee arc all in agree ment a deer hunt is desirable our council should give approval I urge everyone in support of the hunt to mail in their replies Keep rifles locked up in cabinets DearSir Deer Hunt 1981 Last fall I did buy a licence to hunt deer on my own property of acres only for one reason stop anyone from hunting on my property I have had a lot of deer on my property for the post 30 years and believe they graze on all the lands In Hills at one time or another I do not believe there arc as many deer here as the department of lands and forest claims The cost to the taxpayer to have to pay for this and also their time lost and expenses we have to pay for does not warrant any hunt ever Please let s leave the deer alone so we con see them In the future on somebody s land In Halton Hills Our rules look better in gun cabinets loc ked up to look at only and if someone wants to hunt deer let them go 100 or miles north where the country is far les3 populated I have not seen any deer on my property in the last six months until the week of May 39 Part of my land is In the Town of Acton In 198081 1 have seen a total of three deer and deer tracks which have come and gone I will only see them again If there is no hunt Yours truly William Acton
