is ever restored something we hope can be done we re pleas ed to see the lottery will con ttnue for a second year and hopefully many many more It has proved to be an ex vehicle to raise substantial money for a host of other worthwhile projects in town And it has been a lot of fun too The committee came up with a number of imaginative ac twites at the weekly Saturday draws and they pumped a lot of life into downtown Birthday cakes bananas for bonus prizes Superman to name just a few They wrapped it all up for the first year with the highly sue cessful Market which judging from comments of shoppers from Acton and out of town was much much bet ter than anyone expected In dications are the market idea should be repeated next sum mer and held more frequently And while there were a few problems ticket sellers putting their names on tickets and col lecting prizes for people from out of town a problem solved for the next draws predominately achieved its aim of keeping winnings town Most trips cash prizes and bonus prizes were won by Acton and area ticket holders A lot of people deserve credit for making Actano work The volunteers on the committee clubs and organizations which sold tickets and merchants who donated bonus prizes all deserve a hearty round of ap plause However nobody deserves more thanks than Ted Tyler and his family They put in hours hours and hours of work into the Running per cent of the weekly draws alone was a mammoth undertaking for Ted Tracey Angela and Dolores The market was a testimony to their efforts As usual when anyone does anything for others in the com munity some suggested Ted was lining his own pocket making a profit on trip draws Nothing could have been fur from the truth Saturday he donated more to the combination of his profit and Billy Middle tons donation of his trip which he preferred to go to Actano Ted fulfilled a commitment he made about a year ago one people had long forgotten Ted and his family will con their involvement in the lottery the best omen we see for a guarantee of another sue year of Actario The next series of draws begins next month Regardless of how you feel about the town hall Actano is still very thy since it will also go to pro jects other than the town hall next year and in the future Already it goes to other pro jects the work of ticket sellers the Rotary Acton Social Services and Information Cen tre Cancer Society Chamber of Commerce Optimist Club Curling Club BIAandYMCA Run will help complete Terrys Marathon of Hope In just a few weeks Terry Foxs Marathon of Hope will live again in Acton We have no doubt based on Actons past track record that the Terry Fox Fun Run will be a huge success with the organizers reaching their goal of raised for cancer research Acton has freezer part of your fridge for a while Thcnpul he corn in a freezer bag which is draped over a four quart measuring cup You will find that you need lo keep washing your hands in between the various operations as the corn seems to slick to hem constantly Corns idi ring everything was a Tun thing to do and I should have some corn this winter CRAFTY IDFAS by Joan Williamson One Square At A Time Looking Tor design Ideas can be great fun or very frustrating A good simple design idea of the right size is hard to find and if the thought of drawing on or iginal design starts you breathing some of these simple methods of all skill required is not an ability to dash off lifelike What you need here Is a good ruler metric or otherwise and a pencil You enlarge a simple drawing to any size you want by doing it one square at a Children coloring books are a good design source if you want applique or quilt block designs Sometimes they are almost the right size but if you to use one large design on a baby quilt you have enlarge it First of all draw a square around the chosen design Make sure it is on even size so that you can mark ft off in a grid four Inches by four Inches or whatever fits evenly Now then you marked off your square and its 4 inches on each side Draw lines across down to join lie sides one Inch intervals The de sign Is now divided into IB squares De cide how large you want lo make the design Takes a large piece of paper and if you want to enlarge the design to say 12 inches by 12 inches draw a square 12 x 12 and divide it into 16 squares that are three inches square Now corner the tricky part Take a couple of extra pieces of paper and block off all but one square on or design A corner is a good place to start In same corner of the large grid draw exactly what Is la that one square When you done It move the papers and block off design so that you only see the next square then draw what is In that square and so on and so on one square at a lime until you com pic led the design You may find when you ve completed tlit enlargement that you have to make minor adjustments to the drawing but by taking easy and working In small segments like this you can do a good Job reproducing the design In Ihe size you want to use It Is a method that can be used on any design and with practice you II be amazed how well you can copy even photographs for your design use Look for designs with clear firm out lino and try them one square at a time Thanks generous coverage Dear for Free Press Thank you very much for your coverage of our Summer Programs It was a
