Sabres Roy Spear tangled with a Georgetown Gemini player Sabres spend nil their time fighting left Don Brown was more Interested in scoring goals flight a Sabre player battles for the puck behind the net Ex Discipline dilema Talent speed and desire may win hockey games but discipline loses them Last weekend an undisciplined Acton Sabres B play The weekend started off terrible for Sabres as they lost a close decision to Milton Flyers in the Mil be Sabres With experience hopes the dub rid of the problems so apparent Inst weekend Friday night penalties finished the Sabres In minutes of hockey Acton accumulated minutes in penalties and six misconducts Flyers first two goals came on the power play first game of tho ficticious North Battle of better as a still Sabres squad dropped Milton went ahead of Sabres at the 7 12 mark of tht the Cellar Georgetown Gemini first frame Two minutes later Ken found the Saturday night at home things were just slightly Before the weekend all three North Halton clubs opening on a pass from Dulisse and Bob Allsop In the numbers No Red scare in Halton s Rebels say the South shall rise again In the north is still supreme at least in crosscountry running Tuesday Acton High School hosted the annual Cross Country champ ionships at Kelso Conservation Area As usual the strong north team of Georgetown dominated in talent and the combined schools of Georgetown Acton and Milton were also strongest in numbers The number competing was way down the schools from the south didn t send many numbers It was mainly schools from the north said AHS coach Bruce Andrews While the North was strongest in numbers Acton was still hurting from a shortage of competitors Actons junior and senior boys both finished in fifth place Andrews feels the results would have been much better If they were to field a full team I think the kids ran to their if there were more runners for the team prizes only full teams can run he added Despite the small Acton squad there were still some top flu toners In the midget girls Sherry Willale finished fifth and was s IB time In tho Jr was good enough for third spot KnrcnKirnerpIaccd26th Actons Heather Thatcher ran a 37 girls senior to capture crosscountry fourth spot In the midgets boys Jamie Thatcher was Ted and Todd Andrews out of en tranls Tony Wright placed ninth In the ior boys followed by Richard Kilpatriek at Pet at 30th Scott at Scott was and Paul Nolan was Norman was quickest finisher in the senior boys as he placed 15th DeclanWard was Rob Arrington was and David Qulnn was Next week Redmen host the Peel Centennial and cap tured rot place in nil four events David Paul was third in tho junior boys to record Ac ton only finish of the day shared the honor of a three way last place tie Sabres win over Georgetown gave Acton a still unimpressive record good for a two way sixth While the win over Georgetown gave Sabres a lift in the standings the loss to Milton cost Acton more than Just two points Sabres had only 14 minutes in penalties going into the frame At the mark of the period Milton Derek grabbed an Acton player from behind Sabres retaliated and a brawl started Rob Vcrmuelen Tony Gary Williams Mark Duval Mike and Dave received ten minute majors and sat out the remain minutes of the game McGilloway was the first Sabre to leave the ben and as a result was suspended for two games the win over Georgetown and Thursday game against Dixie Beehives Sideline Coach Jules Russian had to aljo sit out day a game In OHA rules a coach is suspended if one of his players leaves a bench In a fight dent Prank took over the reigns On paper the weekend might not have looked very successful but Russian wusn t very disappointed considering the relative youth of the team We vc been taking a lot of foolish penalties it Just Immaturity They can t hold back on their frustrations and it results in penalties explained the coach I think by the first of November it be a different club It II take until November to get things going We re moving In the right air we ve made a big Improvement In just the past two weeks as far as our general knowledge of plays This improvement will come In handy these next few weeks feels the next two games against Dixie tomorrow Thursday and Richmond Hill Saturday could move Sabres into fourth spot Last a club Is almost an opposite of the squad this winter Lack discipline Last year we were a little more disciplined This team will become more disciplined with tho more experience they get said Russian I This team is a little younger so it difficult to compare the two teams This year they re quicker with more speed They say experience makes up for speed this year speed should make up for some experience While Sabres may mature Into a solid team this year Russian Is looking farther than this spring We got a good group of kids we re looking towards tho future We re In a rchullding program rebuild overnight young talent here said the coach Last year the coach had to keep air lifting in new talent This season feels he has the Ings of a winning club if not this year then hopefully next season Milton regained their lead with just two and a halt minutes remaining in the period It took Milton just 37 seconds to split the pipes in the second period as Flyers took a I lead Dulisse poked in a powerplay marker from a pass to close things up again At the mark Mil ton again Jumped to lead Mark Duval connected with a pass from McGil to narrow the lead to Dulisse on mark DulLse again was the marksman slid ng the puck past Milton goaltender for an unassisted goal to tic things up at Milton took the lead once more at the mark but a goal by just nine seconds later put Acton in the points They say the last goal of a period gives a team an advantage Sabres disproved this old line as Milton came back with two quick goals just two minutes In to the 1 frame Roy Spear hit the opening on a power play goal to close the score to but it was futile Acton tie things up in the fiveremalning minutes Lea Martin shots on net while the Milton net minderstoodupto22 Sati Sabres outs ho Gemini and ahead of them on the scoreboard in a victory Williams halted of the Pucks sent way Gemini creasekeeper was stoned Don Brown hit the mesh twice for Sabres Duval Gary Williams Denis and Relf tilled out the rest of Sabres scoring Sabres are on the
