public meeting look Into a proposed Industrial area In Township About 30 concerned property owners were present at ihe meeting held at Rockmosa Centre Inst Thursday evening to hear of to rezone an area from along H from Concession five to seven lota one and two Chairman of he Town ship planning board Mac Storey explained that his committee had spent the past iwo yeara looking over potential areas in the township in which rezone Industrial to at tract industries Storey told the audience the town ship lost three Industries in Ihe paal few years because they had no land zoned industrial and the firms could not wait for the rezonlng Ho explained that process takes up to two or three yeara Industry In the township would ensure jobs for residents and Ihelr children and would help provide a more anted lax base Storey noted the lands in question arc only proposals through a process of elimination of other areas Residents were called to the meeting to ask their feelings landowners would be free to start up their own Industries or sell their land lo Incoming businesses Those who chose to cont their life as Is would be able to do so Howard Smith a planning con sullant hired by the township council explained that should the lake plan and any residents object they can go to the Ontario Municipal Board There will be plenty of chance for public Input before any decisions are made he said Smith noted the municipality will be closely scrutinizing any industry coming into he area to nuke sure they are clean light industry The municipality will have such close reins on the businesses Ihey will even have a say as to the size and looks of the building Sue Shaw a member of the Fort Erie Committee of Adjustment and a land owner Inquired as to the development of future Industrial area It was explained to her it would be spot development and spot zoning developed and as the need arises One area resident asked what kind of Industry does not pollute Industry pollutes people and cars pollute Smith said We would bo dealing with industries that would not put smoke In the air We are not talking about great industries wilh belching smoke or acid Acton real estate agent Alec Johnson questioned Storey on how he planned to get on entrance off the highway for the industries He noted he has landowners who cannot get permission to get a drive way entrance for a home on the highway much less than a factory Storey exclaimed only one en trance would any In tries would be concentrated in one area in a subdivision Any rezonlng would not affect re sidents taxes Smith told the land owners Taxes are based on land use he said The planning consultant also pointed out the land would not be rezoned until or more persons asked for it and not all at once He noted planning
