Experience offers Individual programs in ministries of the Ontario government often in cooperation with community organizations The programs have been designed to complement the academic and career interests of young people At the same time young people are helping to provide valuable community vices Julie Pierce is working for the Ministry of Natural Resources at Kelso Conservation Area in Milton She is one of 3D young people learning the daily work routine of the Hal ton Region Conservation Authority Julie is handling a variety of tasks working at everything from cutting grass to supervising the mini put Julie has just completed her first year at Lake he ad University Thunder Bay In the Forestry program Mc Arthur and Brent Vlckery secured a loan through the Student Venture Capital Project and started up G Entrepreneurs The money was used toward transport a Li on equipment and insurance for their business which entails chimney sweeping wallpaper hanging house painting or selling TV antennas Within a few weeks of starting their business they had to hire three more people to help out Both are recent graduates of Acton High School and are planning to attend university in the fall Through Experience the BIA has hired Don McDonald to help keep downtown Acton clean for the summer months He Is an Acton High School student A firth student Kelly White has also been hired by the to work with Don with downtown promotion and ad verllsing BIA chairman Ed Wood explained his organization had originally ap plied or two students under the government run program but were too late in their application and were only allowed one Kelly Is being paid with funds She just completed grade 12 Other Experience programs include working on farms working In the Crown Attorney office working as summer school teachers and doing public relations for the Bruce Trail and the Niagara Escarpment Com mission Dylan knows how to get In and out the swings at Pro peel Park She was there for program Tot Lot moved The Halton Hills recreation department is once again offering Tot Lot for the summer This year the Acton site has been relocated at the Knox Presbyterian Church Nursery Tot Lot is a program designed for Ituanactlon- packed program including swimming three times a week arts and crafts songs out trip and many more activities Registration is still being accepted For more
