include joys and disappointments begins so wish you would take him by his young hand and leach him the things he will have lo know Teach him to respect the referee and that his judgement is final Teach him not to hate his competitors but lo lire their skill Teach him it is just as important to be a playmaker and get an assist as it is lo score a goal Teach him to play as a team and never be selfish Teach him never to blame the goal tender when a goal is scored against him because five mistakes were made before the puck got to the goalie Tceh him that winning is not everything but trying towin is Teach him it is far more honorable to lose than it is to cheat Teach him to be compel itor Teach him to close his ears lo the howling mob and to stand up to himseir don I coddle him because only test of makes lines steel This is a big order coach and I place son He is such a nice lit lie fellow Submit ted by a caring parent Name withheld on request Parents should be responsible To ihe As a parent who has been involved in minor hockey in this lawn for a number of years I would like sec the postive aspects of the organization stressed We have certainly read plenty of negatives about rccenlly 1 think it is lime thai the parents accepted the responsibility for some of the decisions that arc made in Minor Hockey At the beginning of every season parents and boys alike have a choice between house league and Rep hockey They should know and understand the dif between the luo Hep hockey is competitive boys can be cut from the learn anytime up to December and equal ice time is not guaranteed for all players House league hockey however Is not as competitive equal ice time is supposed lo be provided and boys are from Ihe teams So parents if you and your sons with you direction feel that the pressure of Rep hockey is not for you opt to play house league The Executive that we elected and the coach mg staff they selected have to constant criticism for Ihe past few weeks Nobody has mentioned thai they give countless hours away from some if not all members of their families They come home and spend hours on the telephone arranging Ice time ex hibilion games tournaments and informing team members so our boys can have yel enriching experience No they God they are definitely human and like the rest of us make some errors in judgement but it is not done intentionally hurt Ihe kids and in mosl cases I believe it Is done their best interests a I heart Our AMHA executive members over the years have recognized Ihe above mentioned problems and have provided an unbiased director oversee each team They era there to act as a liaison between concerned parents and the coaching staff So parents use these directors if you need Ihcm Needless losav lhal is the place to take our problems and concerns so that they can be sorted nut our mutual satisfaction to the local paper where nolhing can be accomplished except luperhups upa lot of very strong feelings As parents we have also recognize ihat wt are inclined have tunnel vision where our own kids ore concerned This is perfectly natural if we can 1 be proud of our kids for their achievements and hurl for hem during their disappointments life is full of both 1 who can After all what kind of parents would wt be if this were not true have to realize Ihat other people sec our children w a more objective eye and ihev will be judged parents whelherwe like throughout their lives If we as parents continue to criticize those people who make their time available lo pro vide hockey Tor our kids we ill soon find there is nobody foolish enough lo take on Ihcse jobs The four comers in town instead of Ihe area will then be the busiest place in town So par ents I ask you lo think before you rile or read in any way in a critical manner of other peoples feeling besides your 1 am also asking you as concerned parents get behind our elected Executive Coaching Staff and last but least Iht boys make the Aclon Minor Hockey Association Ihe best system we possibly can and one proud of ours truly Concerned Parent vclvnladenhuid S Although less than half of the teams were approached due shortage of lime There were over
