about but even I can recogniie the talent Andreas Marge Hurray of Church St got a pedal Mothers Day surprise Saturday night Her daughter Jotey Smart of Terrace British Columbia dropped in for a short visit It seems Marge was enjoying a quiet Saturday evening when the doorbell rang When she got up to answer it she taw her youngest daughter standing at the door Josey was in Ontario to help straighten oat the estate of her father in law who had died recently in St Thomas No one even knew she was in Ontario Unfortunately sne had to leave for home early Monday morning and couldnt stay for an extended visit But while she was here she told her family she was at an art exhibit at a mall in Terrace a while back and noticed work by another former Actonlan Jon Chtsholm son of Bus and Chisholm of Acton Jon lives In Kitimat BC now And another Mothers Day surprise was the visit to Ann Peterson of Acton by her daughter Head and family from Bathurst New Brunswick husband Angus and daughter were several hours overdue at the train station thanks to a derailment in Quebec but finally made it They are spending the week in Acton before heading home again Both these surprise visits kept and Noah hopping is Betas sister and is Noahs sister so the Vfmy Street couple had a coast to coast visit Edna won a threetiered Mothers Day cake in a draw by the Golden Age Club Friday The draw was made by Laura Dennis a long time member of the club And Daerek of Georgetown won a Vic Computer in a recent s Mens draw A one day seminar sponsored by the Seniors Information Committee will be held on June at Sheridan College Oakville campus Haltons senior citizens are invited to attend He has performed at numerous events around town including the show for the Wtntario draw a few years abck He been an inspiration to us ail to appreciate music and appreciate that talent can be found in a small community such as Acton And now It time for us to repay Andreas for his contributions to the com munity On Wednesday May IB the music department of Acton High School will be presenting a very special musical evening with Andreas as the featured artist He will perform along with the School Concert and Stage Bands A grade student he hopes to pursue his musical studies at the University of Michigan leading eventually to a career as a professional pianist The high school myself and Im sure many others are anxious to assist him in every way possible to achieve this goal A special scholarship fund has been established for Andreas and everyone is encouraged to consider contributing to this cause Contribution may come from individuals groups or companies and receipts will be issued Those received before May will be noted in a special page reserved in the concerts program Cheques can be made out to the Acton High School This appeal will not be repeated in the future and anyone who wants to play a part however large or small in the future of someone who is surely to be one of the great musicians of all time should take advantage of this opportunity I already have and I challenge all those who know what a cheap skate I am to do likewise The OPP Golden Helmets drove through town Neighborhood Watch began as a dream a couple of months ago but now thanks to many people It is a reality I would like to take this oppor tunity to thank the many people who are responsible for the success of Neighborhood Watch First of all the Acton Free Press for their excellent coverage Constables Jim Bob Ustryzcki and the police department for their enthusiasm and cooperation in all the meetings deserve praise Pat Little of Social Services and Information Centre who had received many calls from concerned citizens who wanted Neighborhood Watch set up In their area helped a lot I would also like to thank May Coffin of the Hills recreation department who helped in obtaining space to hold our meetings Of course anytime you have success in a community project there are always
