shooting opposition We still have the problem with getting comparable talent in such a small drawing area said Allsop but we are being competitive Considering last years scores would have been a lot worse I think we arc show tag a lot of Improvement said Burlington opened the scoring Friday night with a quick goal at in the first period The Sabres determined to make a good showing returned fire at II with a three pronged attack Ken Kavanagb assisted by Vince and Karl Meyer managed to th wart the Burlington goaltender to tie the game at one marker apiece With only seconds remaining In the because at they scored again to break the tie With the game seesawing back and forth the Sabres finished off the second period withagoatotlethegame44 MarkSymea leading a Sabres power play was assisted on the score by Mike In thwarting the Burlington defense For the first ten minutes of the third period the Sabres hung on shutting down the Turlington attack until suddenly the Burlington squad nailed three quick goals In just as many minutes The sudden surge for the opposition took the heart right out of the boys said Allsop remainder of the game neither team was able to score and at the end of the third period It 74 In favor of Burlington The Sabres were back on home ice for gome two of the weekend as Acton took on the Steamers In a haphazard match The boys were looking a little dead out there said the Sabres coach Gary Hudson It was a good game to watch said Hudson It was close and we could have won it I guess the Steamers wanted to win more than we did According to Allsop the Sabres were having a tough time following the game plan set down by coach Hudson The boys need to have more Initiative continued Allsop and they need a team member who will give them a push a player who will give them some leadership The first half of the first period remained scoreless as both teams met head on It until 11 that Paul assisted by Ken Kavanagh and Vince Paradlso took a devastating from the point and smashed the puck past the Milton For the rest of the first period the Sabres kept the puck trapped in the Steamers end Coming Into the second period the Sabres Immediately went on the offensive and took a two goal lead Randy Coverdale assisted by Karl Meyer and Paul sent a wrist shot careening post the Steamers goalie A few moments later however the SteamerE closed the gap with a goal The second period ended with the Sabres still leading the Steamers I The third period proved to be the Sabres undoing Five minutes into the third period Milton tied the match at two goals apiece By this time the fans were shouting and both teams seemed to lose any kind of organisation It was unfortunate that Milton managed to take the lead with a fluke goal said A Milton player was taken Into the corner by the Sabres defense and at the last moment the puck was shot in front of the net The puck travelled within inches of the goal line and before the Sabres goalie Fred could react the puck
