River just south of the Bridge In according lo township clerk Lloyd Township council is now Waiting to see what the water supply situation is and how much extra would be needed It is possible the clerk continued this plan as well as two other subdivision proposals in the village would necessitate the building of a new well for local demands Stone Barn Holdings Hindley said has offered to supply their awn water but council has indicated they would rather have payment in lieu of that so the Township can do the work Councils other major concern traffic around the proposed site has been alayed by the Ministry of Transportation and Com which said they have no eel ions the proposal Clergy I I Comment by Captain Wilton There is a story of a painting well known throughout the Christian world bv its title Jesus the Light of the World Holman Hunt is the artist who created hat painting The painting portrays Jesus standing at the door or a little English cottage Hes holding in his left hand a lamp and with His right hand Hes knocking on the door of the age When the painting was first displayed In a London Art Gallery an art Critic who was a personal friend of the artist went to view it and as he stood back admiring the work of his friend his face suddenly changed He was aghast at what he saw He left the gallery and Immediately made his way across the city to tell Ihe artist my friend you have made a mistake in the painting The artist was quite surprised and said what could it possibly be The art critic answered Jesus is knock ing on the door all right But you left some thing off the door Theres no handle The the artist grinned and began to ex plain He said Thats the kind of door it is my friend You sec my painting portrays Jesus knocking on the door of the human heart and the human heart can only be opened from the inside Thats why theres no handle that Jesus can grasp to let Him self in Only an individual can open his own heart and Invite the Son of God in Hunts painting portrays of course in unforgettable color he scripture verse found in Revelation 3 Behold stand at the door and knock If any man hear my voice and open the door I will come in What will be your response to Jesus knocking DENTURE THERAPIST 2 MAIN ST GEORGETOWN GeorgetownActon Wednesday Feb 1984 3 8772359 The light touch ALL YOUR LIGHTING a ELECTRICAL NEEDS UNDER GERRIE ELECTRIC tiding near the Mill St crossing Accor ding to spokesman Mike Matthews the derailment was caused by a buildup of lec and on the tracks There was no problem because there was nothing dangerous or serious Inside but because It was close to the crossing the lights and bells had to be disconnected until car was put back on the tracks Monday A jack was used to lift the boxcar and move It laterally back over the tracks and then It was gently eased back onto tracks With the signals deactivated Tor a few days train crews were told to be especially careful and cognizant of traffic white going through Acton Rural Acton residents are most interested in seeing an ambulance service here Councillor Dave Whiting said he has received a number of calls in the past week from rural residents expressing support for the idea He said the callers noted theyve had problems with ambulance drivers from Guelph and to some extent Georgetown too not knowing the rural area too well and losing precious time on trips to and from the Acton area The issue of an ambulance service for Acton was raised a few weeks ago by a rural resident Kerwin McPhall at council drop- in said people often have trouble getting ambulances from Georgetown to take them to where Acton doctors work as opposed to the smaller hospital in Georgetown Feeling the matter should be raised at regional council the councillors decided Whiting should take care of the request However he found the region really has no input so Whiting first called and then wrote the Ontario deputy minister of health He has heard no response yet from the province and doesnt a thing back Tor a couple more weeks at least He has also talked with local doctors about this problem Whiting is keeping track of calls and responses from the public to pass on to Queen Park He said he and his colleagues appreciate the feedback and it will help them push the province to establish a single service here Bonnette Chamber of Commerce to lobby for VIA train stop here Councillor Rick Cham of Commerce are joining forces to try and persuade VIA Rail to stop its trains in Acton Passenger trains discontinued stopping here in the early 70s because not enough people were using them However notes Acton grown by about 1500 people since then many of them commuters He says he received strong support from interim Chamber of Commerce president Steve Dawkins for the idea of lobbying VIA to resume service here Feedback from the public has been good already Bonnette says heard from many residents who can sec no good reason why trains shouldnt stop here Seniors like the idea as many of them who dont hove cars or don t care for driving can never go to the city Some citizens think train service Is needed on weekends while commuters would prefer to catch a train here rather than taking a bus or their car to the George town GO train station VIA trains would also be good for wanting to make day trips to the city or going to the CNE The trains wouldnt just benefit Acton residents Acton is drawing tourists and with the Hide House advertising the community so much having tram service would bean extra boost Bonnette says getting VIA to stop here would make more sense from a cost stand point than pushing for GO extend train service from Georgetown through to Guelph Actons size shouldnt be a negative fac tor Bonnette says noting the same trains which come through Acton stop daily stop In St Marys which lias a population of about people Bonnette says hes approaching this positively and figuring If Acton makes a good presentation and works hard the will get VIA train service He Officer ill fuel cited Regional police have confirmed that a propane leak in one of the Georgetown detachments new cruisers was responsible for the illness of an officer who drove the vehicle January Const Brian booked off sick the next day to see a physician after complain ing that propane was leaking Into the drivers compartment District Commander Matt Mac- said the cruiser was taken In for a check and a leak in a propane valve was discovered and repaired said this Is the first Instance of which he is aware of any problems with the propane fuel system in police cruisers since the force converted from gasoline in 1981 Building permits up The value of building permits in 1983 was up mill I on over the previous year In permits totalled million and in million says he needs lots of public support and in put and urges people contact him per send letters lo himself and council attend council dropin which is this Friday afternoon etc Some kind of feasibility study will be con ducted possibly a survey of residents too so theyll have facts and figures to present to VIA Last week at general committee asked Town staff to write VIA and request the trains slop here However at the suggestion of Councillor Marilyn Ser VIA will be asked to send a representative to council to answer Councillor Ross recalled he took the VIA trains to work at one time but later found the GO schedule more convenient He said he wasnt against trying to get the trains to stop here but when they did not many people used them The support of regional chairman Peter who sits on the GO board now should be sought Councillor Mike Arm strong said Theres not much hope of trains stopping in Acton when VIA has been cutting routes and not putting them back on despite criticism from politicians and the public Councillor Sheldon said She added it was worth try anyway said he sees no conflict in push ing VIA to stop its trains here when he sells VIA tickets at his business Acton Travel VIA ticket sales amount to a very small per centagc of his business he said and hed be selling tickets regardless if trains stop here Trains topping here would benefit the community Acton resident Matt Spchar will be hosting a seminar Saturday at Acton High School dealing with investing wisely for your retirement Joining will be Wally of Management Ltd who
