The Spirit Lives On Writes produces his own page book Georgetown teacher Mark hi achieved a long desire to publish a book on Scouting his premier interest aside from teaching and family It a a coincidence the book appeared first during Scout and Guide Week but it an appro priate one The unusual thing is thai Mark not only wrote the book titled The Spirit Live On but he actually produced it Now be is helping to sell it Mark a teacher at St Francis of Asslsl school In Georgetown lives in Glen Williams with his wife Kelly and two children and has written the book about the history of scouting in Acton He has been Involved in Scouting since when he joined the Wolf Cubs in Acton In 1967 he moved up to the Boy Scouts and became Scout leader In He was with the 1st Acton until 1981 when be became scoutmaster of the George town Presently Mark is Assistant District Commissioner of Scouts and the book draws on many of the experiences he has had in Scouting It has hundreds of names and many pictures tracing the story of Scouting in Acton up till the present time Mark started on the book in the fall of 1981 and devoted almost all his spare time to research and study into newspaper files and people in the movement I begin to count the number of hours in volved he I even wrote on a holiday to Jamaica last year The most difficult thing was not the writ and the research he acknowledges but the actual production He typed the Mark with hi book written an IBM typewriter photo copied the paged collated them and bound them with a plastic spiral binding His original aim was to finish lost fall and have the book ready for Christmas but the volume of work and the amount of free time didnt allow it Then he fell sick In November of last year and with an assist from his sister Jennifer and brother Robert the handicap turned into a bless Ing They rented an IBM typewriter for him and he had he leisure time at home to finish typing the book The 104 page a run of 100 for
