Golden Pond wondered bow they could transfer the story which takes place at a lakeside summer cottage to the stage Their Ingenuity provided the answer Entering the thratrc one Is immediately struck by the set constructed for this play A cottage atmosphere with fire place coxy furniture barn board siding strikes just the right note Linda Roes mural seen through windows at the back of the set Is so well done with lake trees far off hills pinpointing lights of distant cottages giving you a total feeling that indeed you are at a summer cottage With the set so well done the ambience is already set as the actors make their first appear ance helping Canada Ron Hunt as Norman Thayer opens the show and is a pleasure to watch His as an aging ornery but man fighting off in of old age as best he can meeting each day with enthusiasm carrying on a long loving relationship with his wife Ethel holds the audiences attention throughout the play Ron brings a warmth to his character and a naturalness that I found very He usually takes a character or secondary part and it ts quite impressive to see him handle this leading role with such a firm grasp Pat plays Ethel and as In former roles handles her part very well As the steady wife and mother providing sup port for Norman and understanding for her troubled daughter she Ron as the in this gentle story The story concerns an aging couple who at their cottage for the summer as they have done for many years for a holiday They are visited by their daughter a divorcee who brings with her her new fiance and his son by a former marriage The son is left with Norman and Ethel for a holiday while the younger couple travel and later return Their relationships and bow Ihey are affected by each other is the basis for the entire play Jackie Willows la daughter Chelsea and John Carter is boyfriend BUI a young actor plays the boy Billy and handles his role well Special mention should be made of David Williams As the postman and former child hood boyfriend of daughter Chelsea who drops in periodically for coffee arid cake he ados an enjoyable touch of humor Although his role is smaller he never missed evoking chuckles from the audience when he on stage An enjoyable evening Listening to the murmurs of approval from the Saturday crowd supports my own feeling that the play is very well done well acted and was a pleasure to attend KNIGHTS OF
