Ontario Secondary School Diploma It will replace the Ontario Secondary School Honor Graduation Diploma OSSHGD Grade and the OSSGD Grade 12 A student in order to graduate must complete 30 credits in the new program of which 16 courses are compulsory To meet university entrance require merits a student must complete six Ontario Academic Courses Advanced Program within the credits Universities will the new OSSD but no preferential treat ment will be given to students who complete their OSSD In four years or less fast tracking Some Boards of Education like Ha Hon have introduced the new program whereas others will start the program in September 19S5 It is expected secondary schools and community colleges will begin and end their semesters at the same times so students graduating from high schools can attend community colleges without the loss of time At present Georgetown District High School students who graduate at the end of January cannot enter Sheridan College in February because their semester starts January Another area of great concern is that students will have lesser choices in technical business and art courses and this has led to teachers losing jobs in these areas The answer to this dilemma may well be retraining as well as the sharing of jobs does not mean that schools have to be More than 50 percent of the secondary schools in Ontario are but there could well be
