transportation was a problem FISH HUT REGISTRATION Next winter It would bo wise for anglers who Lake coe to keep the following In mind before placing a hut on the ice This year there have been a number of fish hut owners with huts on Lake Slmcoe very dis appointed to find their hut had been seized The majority of these huts were seized because there was no registration ber on the hut Conservation officers patrolling the lake move unregistered huts off the fee as soon as they ore noticed A common story heard from hut owners is that they really did plan to have their hut register ed but after putting the hut on the ice they just hadnt bothered to pick up a registration num ber yet Whatever story the hut Is usually seized and the owner Is charged under Ontario Regulation 1305 MUST BEAR NUMBER The regulation states that all huts placed on the ice of Lake Slmcoe and Lake ching in the counties of York Ontario and Slmcoe for pur pose of fishing must bear a re gistration number The number assigned by an officer of the Department must be placed on the front of the hat In numerals not less than 2tt inches in height All huts must be removed from the ice before tbe first day of April If you are the owner of a registered hut and plan to put it on the ice this year be sure to get your registration number You moy one free of charge by personal application the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests Maple Dis trict Office St Maple Ont the Ontario Dept of Lands and Forests Point Park Sutton or the Bass Lake Prov incial Park Bass Lake It is compulsory that the re gistration number be on the hut before it is put on the Ice The above was quoted from a letter received from the Ontario Department of Lands and For ests District Of Slmcoe POOR SPORTS Before the law came into ef fect some of the poor sports would leave their huts on the when the Ice broke up the houses either washed up on shore or floated and became a menace to navigation Other poor sports would place shacks out there on the ice and burn them when they were through with them Myself and fishing compan ions have seen the above done We have also seen the better sports cutting around their fish hut with a chain saw because it was frozen in so badly When it had a few inches of ice the floor they still took the time to chip it out before removing it to shore AFRICA PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI I have at
