weekend the doors of the Halton County Mus eum were open to- the public for the spring summer fall season The Museum Is located In Kelso Park 3 Milton a brief drive from Georgetown via the Line to Hornby turning right on the Base Line During the winter the Museum director H J Newman and the curator Mrs G Brlttain have been busy collecting ca taloguing and restoring art facts and they look forward to welcoming you The purpose of the Mus eum to create and preserve a picture of everyday life on the farms and in the towns and villages of County from 1800 to 1900 The Mus eum comprises a four build Log complex on the original homestead of Adam Alexan der who settled there in The farm remained in the Alexander family for four ge nerations until its purchase by the Authority In 1960 An area including the barn pig pen blacksmith shop and house was leased for years by the County Museum Association for development MILLSTONES The Main Building a barn built in the dis plays the household furnish Ings of the county early settlers The great fireplace was installed a few years ago and its stonework was taken from old mills and ruins throughout the county A key drawing will show local visit tbs stones from mills In Glen Williams Nerval and Stcwarttown The pigpen underwent many changes before being transformed Into the craft house but the original timb ers end stonework have been preserved On hen are examples of pioneer skills in spinning weaving wool carding crochet Ing rug making and wood carving The pioneer wom an sewing skill Is shown in a largo collection of beau old quilts and dresses BLACKSMITH SHOP The coach house was con structed a centennial pro ject by county It houses some of the Museum fine collection of farm equip ment and horse drawn vehic les Also on display here Ls the evolution of dairy equip ment a tack room antique toys and a large collection Hundreds of children visit the museum every year on special day long school tours and possibly their favourite spot is the Blacksmith shop This building has been pre served in Its original state in the great forgo and bellows Under the guidance of Dr Newman the children take part in the actual form ing of iron and see the shop working as it did years ago LOG CABIN Under construction on the museum grounds this spring is on old log cabin This pi oncer bouse built circa by the Forrest has been moved log by log from Currie reforestation Tract in Nassagaweya In the future the museum hopes to enlarge the coach house with two wings in or to display more carriages and sleighs at present in storage due to lack of show space Also in the future are plans for a County Archives and Library to be housed in the old stone form house on the museum grounds CHILDREN FREE The Museum is open to weekdays and m to p weekends but is closed every Tuesday There is a museum mission charge for adults Children are most welcomed and are admitted free of Special group tours can be arranged with the
