tators and participants Teams from Toronto Bramp ton Scarborough and George town competed for the Ameri can Federation of Grain Millers Trophy In the A division and for the Georgetown Kinsmen trophy in tho B division AFTER AN extremely close time Toronto was announced as winner of the Kinsmen trophy In the B division with Scarbor ough as runnerup In tbe A division Toronto edged out a narrow win highlights of the afternoon was the exhibition of liferent Judo techniques giv en by black belts and Georgetown for the American Federation of Grain Millers Fred Daley the Georgetown instructor was Kindergarten Kids County Health Unit has recently purchased a Scar borough Scrcener This equip ment is to be used In testing the vision of kindergarten children throughout the county The test consists Sunday it was anniversary Sunday All seats were filled as a large crowd came out to welcome tbe guest speaker Rev William P Sllnn pastor of Memorial United Church Ridge- way The Acton Legion Chorallers added much to the service with their contribution of three num bers also the Junior sang very sweetly under the direction of Mrs Robert Kerr Miss Sinclair was organist Rev Kelvin Johnston called service of worship and thought it was In order to have early history of the church read by one of the descendants of the earliest worshipper Mr Akltt- Norman Sinclair was cal led to read this history prepared by Miss Hilts Rev had an amusing little story for the children about a family of skunks The sermon given by the guest speaker was The time between Easter and Pen tecost went on to say it wasnt enough to tell others believed the miracles of Easter and Christmas we have show it by tho life we live The beautiful baskets of daffo dils which graced tho church were placed there through bos- pita and la convalescing at her home In Georgetown Allan and Murray arrived home on Sunday after an enjoyable holiday In Scot land and the island of Majorca They spent a few days with their grandmother Mrs at Toured other parts of Scotland and visited with many other relatives The rest of tho time was spent on tho Island of Majorca which Is a noted spat far tourists Allan graduates from Zeta Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi was held at the borne of Joan McDonald Stewarttown where final plana were made for tbe Founders Day dinner to be held April 30 The evenings program on Architecture was presented by and Joan McDonald In all girls atten ded a tour of Hamiltons Dun- dura Castle which had been arranged by and Joan Castle was the home of Sir Allan Napier who was Prime Minister of United Province of Canada In IBM The home was complete ly restored between and as Hamiltons Centennial project castle has approxi mately 33 rooms each decor ated In the correct period style The tour started In base ment where we were shown tbe various rooms used by the do mestic help for their chores There was a dairy room where fresh butter and cheese were In the laundry room we saw several Irons and equipment used to press ruffles on the ladles fine dress es and petticoats One iron weighed about 25 pounds and was used for pressing the heav ier linens We were then shown the wine cellar the brewery the baggage room and tbe Ire proof vault where Sir Al lan kept his valuable papers In tho kitchen we were told how candles were made and after much tedious work one candle would burn for only ab out minutes In the oven bread cakes and cookies are still baked In the To beat tbe oven the cook would have to light the fire and when oven was the proper temperature remove the hot coals sweep the floor clean and then the baking could be done in hot brick There was also a dumb waiter on which the prepared food was placed In order to be sent to the butlers pantry next to the dining room After our tour of the base ment we walked to the second floor of the castle where we saw the three daughters bed rooms their school room and the childrens nursery which intained all sorts of ar ticles to delight almost any child There was a Victorian doll with waxen face and mov ing eyes Also on tbe second floor three guest rooms have been converted to a historic museum Three steps above the second floor we found ourselves looking at the master bedroom We are now on ground floor admiring the drawing room tastefully decorated in crimson and lilac Off to one side of tbe room a beautiful antique piano which can still be played today As we entered the dining room we could Imagine gay dinner parties with plenty of good wine to drink and lots eat One of the original sil ver serving dishes bearing tbe tits on the buffet at the far end of the room On the table we saw ornate candelabra as well as silver bowls laden with fruit High above the table hangs a magnificent crystal chandelier Small Wedgwood discs decor- 1 ate the base of the chandelier while a million stars sparkle from its crystal prisms Each prism would be painstak ingly cleaned by lady of the house as the chandelier was too great a treasure to bo trusted to the household help Before departing we were shown the Ablution Room where Sir Allan would bathe It lo cated near the rear entrance to the castle so that Sir Allan would have easy access to It af ter a day of riding or bunting In the basement a maid would laboriously pump water for two or three hours to ensure that Sir Allans tub would be filled when he wished to bathe The girls then got Into tbe waiting cars for the ride back to Joans where our meeting was resumed While refresh ments were served many peo ple discussed the pros and cons of
