Georgetown University Women Receive Charter An introduction to the Canadian Federation of University Women was the theme of the Inaugural meeting of the University Women a Club of Georgetown September 7 All University Women a Clubs in Canada are members of The newly formed Georgetown chapter consequently wished to know more about the nature of the national organization to which they belong Miss Lillian Ontario VicePresident of the Federation who drove from Renfrew for the occasion brought greetings from CFUW and presented the club with its charter AIMS OUTLINED Miss reminisced about the early days of CFUW on the aims of the Federation the development of a sound concept of educational values and of high standards of public education In Canada the encouragement of advanced study and research by the awarding of scholarships to women who wish to further their education the arousing and sustaining of an intelligent in teres on the part of members in public affairs in the political social and cultural fields the encouragement of active par tlclpation in such affairs the improvement of the economic social and legal status of women CFUW promotes all these as alms both for itself and for local clubs Mrs Louise SI cm in of the North York University Women Club spoke about the relationship of to local clubs She outlined successful community activities of several clubs migrant language programmes pollution groups and promotion of better community facilities were highlights At the national level Mrs SI em in recounted some of the of Briefs have been presented by CFUW to the federal authorities concerning the Status of Women Justice and the Penal Code Succession Duties Criminal Law and the Education of Women among others CFUW played a large part in the establishing of the
