Projects by RALPH 11 AWES Now that we are Into the new year we have so much to look forward to such new license plates town taxes Income tax and many other Joyful things each new year brings with It To the Branch the new year which is but a few days old will bring with it many more challenges to again uphold the aims and objects of the Legion To hold up our end In the community This we honestly believe Branch 120 has done in the past We Legion members of 120 have much to be proud of as veterans and members of this community for 120 Is ever ready when called on Looking over last year there were some who were disappointed with the outcome of the kid hockey hassle but the Branch at once took up slack donations lo the hospital The obligation to the Royal Cano Legion C L fund fulfilled almost as soon as It asked for as were donations to organizations too many to mention NEW PROJECTS We believe this year will sec new projects whfch will from the provincial and commands also many com projects which know the Branch will take in Its stride We have one very membership chairman in the Branch Harry Atkinson made his last count of early birds on New Year Day and came up with a count of around which Is excellent for owing to illness Harry got on to poor start on the early bird campaign and for a while it looked kind of shaky However Harry dug his heels In and produced good show Horry LIFE BLOOD In this column tend to dwell frequently on the subject of service lo veterans and the projects of our community Again in this direction we would quote the Ontario President Don Wilson who wrote recently In a Provincial Command Bulletin Service Is the life blood of our organization and If we were let one knock on our door go unheeded then we shall not have lived up to our obligations and the end result would be lo fold our tents and silently steal away ENCOURAGING It would seem that the 1971 poppy campaign was a terrific success The figures from On Command which could be a guide to the results of other commands are most en aging Three and a half million lapel poppies were used in Ontario the highest number The distribution of wreaths surpassed the previous year by All In all ft Is an excellent achievement with the credit going to Ihe Branch Poppy Chairmen for the outstanding manner In which they conducted the poppy campaign at their level As always members of Branch 120 ended the year on December 31st with the traditional New Years party the auditorium was full to capacity with carefree couples anxious to bid the old farewell and to greet the new with welcome The old turned out to be Jimmy and the new Baby Hank Bruce Collins and helpers Virile and Doris put in a long day preparing and cooking an ex Chinese lunch The Alt Sutton orchestra were kept busy throughout the evening and wee hours of morning satisfying the eager dancers Roma Tlmpson who organized the whole thing did an excellent job good thing the Branch has such people as Roma Bruce Chuck Pat and many others who do their bit to keep things running smoothly throughout the year DID YOU KNOW Potatoes retain a higher vitamin and mineral content when cooked In their own jackets If you soak Ihe potatoes
