GEORGETOWN HERALD THURSDAY SEPT Page Ob High School Insights Pens Poised For Summer Vacation Essay by LARRY BROADFIELD AND LARRY Yesterday marked the beginning of another year of studies for high school students across the country At Georgetown high students were breaking out the books and poising the pens ready to start that perennial essay on My Summer Vacation Every September it seems English and Creative Writing teachers request each student to write a short essay about what he or she did during the summer Smart students nave taken notes on all their summer activities making the task a matter of copying the events from the notepad It look like there are many smart students BACK TO ROUTINE Everyone at GDHS Is getting back to the old grind students teachers and especially the principals and guidance staff Minor flaws In the com timetables must be Ironed out This provides a flood of work for many of the school paper pushers Only a computer could think it possible for a student to get through the day with no lunch period Most problems are small however and can be solved by a few alterations to the timetable HO HUM Soon the initial shock of returning to school will wear off and the memories of another summer will be lost In the daze caused by a dally routine Hlghschool students and teachers will again fall Into the atmosphere of school This atmosphere Is sometimes broken by the regular sports events field trips social functions and in frequent days of confusion and chaos that occur during the school year When those routine shattering events take place High School Insights hopes to be there with cameras and notepads ready to make a report A BUSY SUMMER During the summer months students have been travelling to interesting places to work or Just to enjoy the vacation but there has been a lot going on right here in Georgetown The teen program sponsored by the recreation department provided various activities for teenagers during the months of July and August Sports crafts films fitness classes out of town trips and concerts are Just a few of the events that were organized and carried out by this group Another recreation depart project was the summer grounds at a number of public schools A program of crafts sports and special events kept their youngsters busy Still another group Focus sponsored by Opportunities for Youth helped to occupy Georgetown youngsters Their activities Included a playschool puppets crafts and matinee movies The local another OTY project and a group working with the mentally retarded each provided activities In their areas outside of the town Observing all this summer excitement it appears that recreation in Georgetown Is not dead but Is on the upswing at least for the young STUDENT EYE VIEW Now that September here we can finally settle down and recuperate from the most exhausting activity we in the summer Our summer Jobs For some reason many young people insist on spending great sums of money to become exhausted during their vacations Some of you may have just sat around a swim pool getting a tan but the more energetic of you were hiking canoeing playing tennis or other games and generally taking advantage of the great summer weather At least you can look forward to a whole winter of school to rest up from this summer and prepare to outdo it next year On my vacation I decided I needed a change from the same old routine at home After at least an hour of preparation I set out on a week long bike hike with a friend The first thing we discovered was that It takes a lot longer than an hour to prepare for a long trip During the course of the week we found at least 10 pounds of useless bulk we were carrying and another pounds of stuff we needed The most important item to take on any trip though is money Our trip was a real challenge because we had very little money In the next couple of weeks countless students will wish they had spent less money on their vacation but not me I suffered a week of starvation so I could afford my student card LIMESTONE ALL SIZES AftB GRAVEL FILL AND TOP SOIL BUD HAINES DURHAM ST OR J COD Multi shelf unit Special aHold everything This
