to Georgetown Friday and ran smack into a revitalized in club the Haiders home team disposed of the visitors 1 Much of the credit for the improved Georgetown team is due to the presence of new defenccmnn Rick McLochlin He was an duty line for Fridav game and he added some solid positional to his who has had hockey experience with the Myers and who now bills real is Late in that com munity Ihe aiders scored what proved to he the winning goal He not that tally the second for the Raiders in the first period near he end of the frame From that point in time quote Watergate the home squad never looked back Also back with Ihe Raiders for the game fresh from holidays was forward John Mora He made his presence felt with an assist on the fifth Raider goal Moro had a fine breakaway rush on the goal in the second period when he got behind the visitors defence but his shot was stopped by net minder Pete Jenkins Shortly after Doug Tate had a good scoring opportunity only to be thwarted again by Jenkins That just about spelled the end for Mudcat net minding as the Haiders honed their sticks readjusted their sights and began popping rubber into ttie net as fast as a champion olive stuffer stuffs olives on the slopes of Vesuvius As has been their wont lately the Raiders potted the visitors a one goal lead as the game got under way scored on a rush led by Ken Austin at the mark Just more than minutes later the Raiders got the range and tied the game They got another marker to take he lead then built up the insurance premiums SLAPSHOTS Bruce Jackson turned in some fine goal tending for the Raiders as tie handled shots during the game the Raiders in turn fired shots at he He made a brilliant save on a breakaway by Mudcat Bill and even caught a puck that had slipped behind him and was creeping towards the goal line Fellow Tom Bowker had to lea the same at the mark of the first period when he was whacked on the head by an errant stick It caused him to bump his head turn on he goalpost Pete Jenkins came In re cement There were six periods of hockey placed two because of accidental soundings or the siren one because the first period one second short of the mark after injury Thai one second was made up at the start of the second period If you re wondering why the Mudcats are called it because mudcats a fish are common in the games on home ice usually see or two the fish not the player tossed onto the ice Mudcats had eight men on the ice for three seconds in the first during a line change at they missed the eyes of the officials and weren t ailed Rick Thompson won the lucky program draw but missed out on the prize when Ihe man of his choice Junior t score a penalty shot on Jackson Final Georgetown goal was a effort by Don Norton who came rushing in from the blue line to park the puck cleanly in the net Fans were out in large numbers for game and they can turn out in ever larger numbers for some more good hockey Friday when the Raiders host Fort Erie HRST
