projects to Improve the com munity and to help create a community spirit Their second meeting was held on Tuesday evening January 28 In United Church with Hugh as chairman and Mrs Pear Guthrie as secretary The first meeting was held two weeks previously at the home of Randy At this meeting the various members were assigned specific areas of interest to the community to investigate They were water Mrs Marie Carney beautlttcatlon Bob Crawford- community ac tivities Randy Ken Gould mem bership Michael Mrs Dorothy IcLean organisation Pat Patterson and Tom school Julian Heed At the second meeting each member reported their findings to date Tom and Pat Patterson reported they had a rough draft drawn up of the constitution stating the purpose of the organization requirements for membership etc but there were a few details work out such of he const tutloo will be ready for the next meeting It was decided to Invite some members from Association to the next meeting to give in formation on now they set up their organisation Ken Gould reported that be had been In touch with Len of Halton Hills council regarding a letter that waa sent to the Hydro commission requesting Information on the costs of better lighting for the village Mr Coxe said that so far there had been no reply It was decided that Mr Gould should get In touch with the Hydro officials and request the Information as soon as possible It the opinion of moat members that this type of In formation could get bogged down In council business while they dealt with more Important milters and that much quicker results would be obtained by dealing with he Hydro of ficials Mr Gould was also appointed to draw attention to the fact that present lighting was Inadequate because many bulbs were burnt out He will request that they be replaced as soon as possible Michael Lawlor reported that he had spoken to a good visitation for a special membership drive Julian Reed reported that regarding the school he had been informed that at the present time the Halton Hills council and the school board are at a stalemate regarding the sale of Chapel St School In Georgetown and the school The school board has offered to sell the two schools to Hills for Coxe informed him that the council hod offered the school board one dollar for each school Julian reported that he was looking Into the transaction of property his grandfather the late Col Alex Noble had sold to the school to find out if in fact this deal had ever been eon- sums ted as he understood there was some basic contusion regarding the property He said there was some doubt that they had clear title to the land Mrs Marie Carney reported that had set up a meeting with Bob Bailey at which would discuss the water situation In the village Legion Lines and the costs Involved She would have more to report following this Julian Reed stated hat be had information of interest to the community regarding water He said that a few days ago the Credit River ran white for hours He traced the white river right to the Georgetown sewage disposal t and they admitted that were having problems but account for the river running white They claimed they were at a loss to know the reason Julian got in touch with various organizations such as the Water Resources Com mission but was finally referred to John of the ministry of environment They were all aware of the pollution Samples of the water are now being Investigated He was given the Information that the present sewage plant in Georgetown Is inadequate The present flow through it Is double what the punt to handle therefore every time It rains the raw sewage empties Into West Branch Creek and Into the Credit River at An expansion of the sewage plant Is planned for 1970 but when It is completed It will only meet the requirements needed today Any further building In Georgetown would overload the system again and the Situation as It will only accommodate the present overflow The Toronto region of ministry of the environment Rave this Information to Julian le asked John If he would but be replied that the plant belonged to the ministry of the environment and as he worked for the same ministry he could hardly lay charges Julian is now considering laying charges for pollution of the Credit River against the ministry of en vironment He said that it fa unfortunate that Norval Is situated downstream from Georgetown as he could see no improvement of the pollution in the river In the future Mrs Guthrie whose property beside the river stated that it is not only tho color of the river but the smell that Is offensive Randy reported that he had been In touch with Mr Watson the trustee for this Oregon the school board and requested permission to use water at the school to flood the outdoor skating rink there so the children could enjoy skating Jim Evans of the committee phoned and gave him permission to flood the rink so as soon as the weather man cooperates the rink will be ready or skating Randy also reported that a group of young people in the district want to have a Winter Carnival in the school grounds on February It would be held In the evening and would Include skating snowmobile rides a bonflre and sale of hot possible It was decided to request the use of the school for the carnival so that films could be shown Indoors and possibly dancing Mrs Dorothy McLean reported that due to illness there had been little publicity so far but promised to do better Hugh McFarlane reported for Bob Crawford who was unable to attend the meeting that be had some plans In progress or beautlflcatlon of he com munity It decided that time on the Association Hugh and Julian Reed agreed to be the representatives to attend the council meeting The next executive
