Paces THE HERALD Wednesday MarcbS lfl Ontario Hockey Association Raiders 0 At a specially called Ontario Hockey Association tribunal held lost Thursday night the Georgetown Chrysler Raiders were officially suspended from the OHA In A League for the remainder of this hockey season This effectively kills any hopes the Raiders had entertained of making another charge the Hardy Cup There Is a however that the Raiders might be subject to even stronger disciplinary action when the OHA executive meets this coming Wednesday A member of the OHA head office informed The Herald that the Raiders case Is on the agenda and if the violation of league rules is considered flagrant enough the suspension could be extended for more than this year As has been stated previously Port Colbome Sailors originally protested the status of Raiders Jerry Pearson A league protest meeting agreed with the Sailors claim but merely ordered the Raiders to change the status This was not enough for Port Colbome who announced plans to lodge an appeal against the dedal on A majority of the teams In the In termediate A league voted to await the outcome of the appeal and playoff plans were shelved The Port Colbome action had no precedent and a special tribunal was set up to deal wit he problem In the Interim Port Colbome came up with new and more damaging evidence against the Raiders and it was this new material which caused the tribunal to waive the protest meetings decision and issue the suspension The new evidence proved that the Raiders had submitted Information to Tribunal findings will be forwarded to the executive and it will be up to them to moke final judgement In light of the suspension and the curtailing ofthe Raiders season the club Issued the following statement On Thursday Feb the held an appeal tribunal to reconsider the results of the protest hearing held on Wednesday Feb 19 1B75 In Toronto The appeal tribunal found the Georgetown Intermediate Hockey Club guilty of falsifying the information regarding player In question The club was fined stripped of points earned against the Port Colbome team and barred from further competition this playing year The tribunal panel consisted of a Brampton lawyer as chairman and spokesman Hugh McLean first vicepresident and Bud Miller OHA league convenor The panel felt that the Georgetown club should become an example Tor all teams and that the OHA would not tolerate any player card Irregularities The rule manual number states Any team club or team official or player found guilty of allowing falsa information to appear on a registration certificate or who makes false representation to the Association shall be suspended for a period to be determined by the Executive Com Further the offending team shall forfeit to the nonoffending team all previously played games la which name of the offending official or player appears on severe ruling we faced would be I The player involved could be suspended The president manager could fc ded 3 Any Executive or club member who could be Identified as Involved could be The duration of these suspensions would be at the discretion of the President The Raiders executive is both shocked and disappointed at the severity of penalty imposed Two years ago the Dundas Intermediate Hockey Club was found guilty of a similar offence and the president and tbe five players Involved were suspended We feel that we have been out of all to the offence and past penalties The Raiders Hockey Club has received overwhelming degree of support from our fans and the businessmen who nave sponsored our team and Its activities To forts of hundreds of people were channelled h effort to win the Cup The Raiders will be back next season and we will endeavour to give our fina a high degree of competition and a longer season The letter was signed by the Raiders Hockey Club Executive Brownlow President T MooresSecretary Kcntoer Vice President Treasurer A Director If a league is to survive Us members must abide by the rules and regulations as set down Tbe Raiders violated the league rules was the penalty too hirst Obviously the other teams In tbe league were hoping Just such a ruling It should also be noted that at the meeting in a short while ago Fort Erie and although voting along with Georgetown expressed displeasure at cer tain questionable Raiders tactics voiced the opinion that unless Raiders were dealt with firmly the league might lose its credibility So who is to blame for this unfortunate happening which has deprived Georgetown of Intermediate Hockey at least for the balance of this season Port who lodged the appeal The OHA for handling down honestly be called to task line someone made decision to bypass rules and by doing so undermined league This I am sure Is the position that OHA took and thus tba reason for tbe severity of the ruling Perhaps league will be better off because of this decision Perhaps the Raiders will be Only time will tell For Raiders fans It is a bitter pill to swallow because of team potential as a Hardy Cup winner But then again re Is more lime to prepare for next season and more time to think about ways to avoid the mistakes that were made this year Juveniles have three of six The Georgetown Rotary an overtime period t the two teams were determined of the night to ignite his club Juveniles accepted the mantle resolve the
