this contest lightly The earlier encounter had been won by the Rebels by one small point and the Rams top player Gord Mc Niece had not played The Rams brought along approximately 100 supporters however the students picked up the challenge and packed the gym to lend vocal support to their favorites As one teacher commented This is the most support we ve had and the most spirit that has been shown in three years The Rebels rose to the oc cas ion and put down the bat tling Rams 63 It was a close game throughout and the Rebels almost blew It in the opening quarter by playing A timid Ineffective ball the Rams had a comfortable 168 lead and clearly dominated Clay Then as so often happens i sports the Rebels made a complete about face and look control of the game With to go in the name of the game last Friday night at Nelson High School In Burlington and the Rebels lost both the psychological war and he on court battle rather badly There was no question that the Rebels were cast as the underdogs However Just recently when these same two teams met In the regular season the Rebels kept pace with the Lords for all out the final three minutes of that gamcbeforebowlngout performance in that contest coupled with the teams ex cells semi final win over M M Robinson was expected to Hive the Rebels the added lift they would need to seriously threaten Lord Nelson But nothing of this sort materialized and the Rebels were literally blown off the court From the opening whistle the Lords took command of the game and the best that can be said for the Rebels Is that they were in contention for possibly two minutes Their rebounding was virtually nonexistent and the press defense that Nelson employed throughly checked any thought of a patterned Rebel offence For the better part of the game It was every Rebel for himself and the resultant erratic ball handling and shooting coupled with poor passes only served to add to the Re lea considerable misery The rabid Nelson fans who packed the gym enjoyed every minute of the humiliation and continually drowned out the Infrequent cheers from the Georgetown crowd who had fallowed their hopefuls to Burlington Rick Mike Doug Lamb and Paul Michael each had six for the Rebels Mark played well below bis capabilities scoring one point and showed aggressiveness on the boards He did little to help his team a cause
