shovel again season Its so depress tag The only ones who are really enjoying all anew are the kids and the snowmobile en- BOOKS LIMITED Christian Books They are catching up on missed winter fun ft t la spring however are less fortunate as the roods to the skiing are all with the skiing Ideal How frustrating Most mothers had Just finished one of their first spring Jobs washing up all the hats mittens scarves snow boob etc and storing them neatly away until It didnt help their disposition any to have to haul them all out knowing full well that they will have the Job to do all over again Mothers heave a big sigh of relief when they can pack all the winter gear away and know that at last they wont have to haul all that clothing on and off several times and day No wonder she feels down The men are Just as grouchy The storm caught them by surprise too They were starting to look over their fishing equipment and their golf clubs Some had even started to clean up around the yard and were planning the garden only to have their spring dreams dashed by the blizzard A heavy snow storm In the spring that only lasts a day or two we seem to be able to take In our stride but real winter weather for days on end with more snow promised by the weatherman la just too much We dont even grin anymore Rev and Mrs Howard Smith and family Paul Stephen Susan ana Mark returned home from an working order bike at the bicycle clinic held at the Clergy Comments Only a letter peter Barrow Sorry were full No Vacancy Thats the unfortunate message the town will be passing back to the North Halton District Boy Scouts Council concerning their request for a permanent space to hold meetings for ap proximately to people The towns general ad ministration committee after discussing the Boy Scouts request came to the conclusion that no permanent space Is available for them at this time However their request will be kept in mind should space become available These past few weeks I hove been getting a lot of correspondence that 1 never really expected and It reminded me of an old Scottish Minister Dr Johnstone Jeffrey He always said You know you can do a great deal of good with a postage stamp I know that I dont write all the letters that I should and sometimes I get a very bad conscience about it all So perhaps you will allow me to snare with you some thoughts I have had about letter writing One of the nice things about being happy la to know that someone else Is sharing that Joy and strangely enough it Is easier to write to someone who la unhappy than to someone who has a great Joy Words of sympathy and understanding flow much more easily to the pen than words of congratulation Perhaps it la because we are all a tittle bit Jealous of someone elses success or maybe we feel that they will be hearing from enough people without being bothered by us All I know that in a world where envy and jealousy are far too common it does a lot of good to use that stamp to tell our fiend how happy we are for them people do a lot for us and although- we desperately want to there doesnt seem to be any way that we can show our appreciation Use a postage stamp there are few things In the world that lift someones heart more than a word of appreciation Strangely It doesnt make him proud it makes him humble because he knows Just how little he deserves it Have you ever been discouraged and depressed and how often in such a time has an unlocked for word of appreciation- lifted you right bock up again That kindness that youve been meaning to thank someone for how about using that postage stamp and doing it Then then I sympathy In a strange way our grief la our own and there la no one who can help bear it We If are Christian can find a deep well of in our faith in Christ and to know that He is there with us Is often enough But at the same time to know that in the days of sorrow the knowledge that our friends are thinking about us and sharing in our grief as much as they can la something that gives us an added strength A postage stamp to bring our sympathy with someone deep in trouble can never go wrong My old friend Johnstone Jeffrey shall have the last word A man he said should keep his friendships in constant repair Surely a friendship worth eight cents The idea of the quota system one of the alternatives suggested in the green paper concerning Canadian Im migration policies Is ethnically unpleasant ac cording to Haliona MP Dr Speaking Monday with Grade Canadian Studies classes at Georgetown District High School Philbrook at tempted to explain some of the concepts of Canadas Im migration policies It will be difficult to state the quotas and how to apply the quotas to each country The quota system Is not as practical as the present point system stated Dr Dr elaborated on the point system for the students then relate to the labor needs of the country There ore some exceptions to this policy such as the rejoining of Immediate families and excepting refugees from emergency countries The M P continued to discuss the Issue of the present orphan adoptions of Vietnamese children by Canadian families This Is a very controversial question of whether a baby belongs in Its own country or In foreign country an ex tremely emotional Issue where a country like this has opinions which are split right down the middle There have been more requests from Canadian families to adopt than there are available orphans A student accusing the government of handing out welfare cheques to people who would rather sit on their butts all day instead of work triggered strong opinions from bit of evidence which proves ecelved Is sweeping ac- that the people are collecting against the welfare welfare unnecessarily All Ive system I will promise myself By Dale Carnegie Assoc Inc New York Copyright IKS Dale Carnegie Assoc Inc Welfare Is more of the responsibility of the provincial government However one should take a good look at the system before criticizing Perhaps its a sign of the times that we ore becoming mora concerned for people who do need help and who fust couldnt cope without welfare Of the nine months I have been in office I have not received one It was an interesting con versation to hear A young lady of eighteen talking with a learned man He had asked her about her career what line of training she wanted to pursue She said Well you know sir I would like to become a psychologist but It requires so much time In school that I am afraid I would be too old The wise man sat In silence for a few moments and then asked Young lady how long would it take you to become a psychologist She said Probably seven years How old would you be then was the next question I would probably be about Then the man asked How old will you be in seven years if you dont become a psychologist Of course her answer was Well I guess I would be about IS A provocative thought How many people have cheated themselves How many nave relinquished dreams because the voices of procrastination and failure whispered negative thoughts into their ears This Is where many fall Into the trap of growing old when they are in reality still young They grow prematurely old because in their early years they start to grow old If you were to drop your left arm to your side let ft hang limp and not move a muscle for weeks It would of course wither and become useless But in con trast if you chin yourself twenty times before breakfast each morning or lift the bar bells your muscles will become and responsive Our mind is like our muscles If we allow It to get and inactive then it will lose Its keenness but if we exercise regularly It too will become strong and responsive It was Prank Ba tiger who said The man wbo keeps learning stays Smog The greatest thing to to keep the mind young Henry Ford put It way The man who tope learning Is old whether he be twenty or eighty We have bat ta look us no matter where we may live and we can spot evidence of this great truth we can see people young la years but old In mind and spirit simply because they allowed themselves to tall Into a mental rut They stopped exercising their minds they stopped learning Look Just a little further Pick out that vibrant happy older man or lady who has lived more years but is still young In spirit and comparatively young in body Study that person You 1 probably find him to be a person is constantly wanting to learn He has exercised his mind This is why youth has blessed him all these years and will probably con tinue What we do with oar Uvea today what we do to discover and develop our hidden talents and abilities now when we dont have to this will determine what and where we will be when the day comes when we can no longer help It This Is a
