Kingston the Ladles Auxiliary elections and In stallations Branch elections and Leg Ion sponsored Air Cadets Inspection To begin the weeks ac tivities a very large parade at Kingston on Sunday and a very long parade on a very hot afternoon Its funny bow these halfmile parades In variably end up being mile- long parades Nine districts were represented and our District B Is by far the largest district with branches alone So adding on the other districts you get the picture that It was a tremendous parade At the end of the parade we broke off and went Inside the Kingston Memorial Centre where opening ceremonies took place We were by Kingston Mayor George N Flora MacDonald Kingston and the Islands a rousing round of applause for Syl MPP Kingston and the Islands and Premier William pa vis who was guest speaker Our neighbour Bill from Brampton la an honourary member of Brampton Branch Ifand was given an Life Membership In the Legion on Sunday He expressed his great pride at receiving this honour and said it was one of the highlights of his entire life There were many more in teresting people who welcomed us to the convention and to Kingston We had a few musical interludes and the Kingston Senior alliens club entertained us with many songs They were all dressed In period costumes They frequently go out and entertain at various functions They got a real kick out of It so did we They were very warmly received by the delegates and their wives Business sessions began on Monday morning and the sum total of voting delegates was over the 1500 mark Our district B and I believe district A also were com mented on quite favourably as being the only two districts that stayed right through the entire convention and didnt leave early or In some cases did not even show up for some sessions Your delegates welcomed the opportunity to attend this 2Mb biennial convention and look forward to going to London In 1977 They are holding the 1B79 convention In Sudbury while the dominion convention will be in Winnipeg In I97fl During the Ontario Provincial Command con vention Dave Capperauld of town was installed as President of Provincial Command for the next two years A proud moment In deed for Dave Elma and their friends Much good luck Is extended- to you Dave from Branch Apart from the very excellent reports given by all the committee men dealing with honours and awards sports poppy legion com munity programs public relations our golden an niversary program bursary constitution and laws membership the newly for med action committee a committee to improve our nation ways and means track and field we had over resolutions to consider which took a great deal of time Many very fine guest speakers took time out from their busy schedules to come spend a few minutes with ua and give us first hand In formation regarding veterans administration pensions treatment veterans welfare review board id MacDonald minister of veterans affairs was guest speaker War veterans allowance and Canadian pension was also discussed The one speaker who received a standing ovation and deservedly so was Jean Dumoucbelle of Windsor who is president of the ladles auxiliary Provincial Com mand In her report to the delegates and there was a goodly amount of ladies auxiliary and lady legion members present she told us that the auxiliary had now members in 393 auxiliaries During IBM they had contributed to our respective branches and raised overall Quite a remarkable achievement and the men certainly appreciate the work done by the ladles During the day the wives were treated to many tripe around the Kingston area to see points of Interest A boat trip around the Thousand Islands was enjoyed by many plus trips to Kingston Military College City Hall Old Port Henry and during the evening we were all Invited to the hospitality of Branch No 137 Sydenham Branch No Kingston Branches No 9 which was the boat branch The hospitality was second to none all during the We had a most rewarding convention not only in terms of the business that was ac complished but the very fact that there Is an allout cam paign to get veterans who are not Legionnaires so they may be made aware of the rights and privileges that are due them and their dependents We had one very excellent speaker Professor Hill of Sick Children Hospital who gave us a rundown on the money given by us to them In the research area of the health of the unborn baby and the care of the mother and baby after birth where necessary I hope to get his speech and relay to you the pertinent facts Last Thursday after the meeting of the Ladies auxiliary nominations elec tions and installations took place with the aid of the executive of the branch Your officers for the coming year are president and the newly elected officers pledged their support of the auxiliary and said they would do their best In the next year During the meeting held previous to the elections we accepted the applications of two new members June Cam well and May Lawr We will welcome Ihcaa into our membership at our June meeting There were only members out to our meeting which I thought was a disappointing number when we are having elections I expect that there will be quite a few more out for our June meeting though No raffle was held due to the poor response of members bringing in donations from their kitchen cupboard Jane Kirby requested the spon sorship of the Ladies Auxiliary to form a 4H club starting In September The ages of the girls would be 12 to IB and they would learn baking with yeast sewing gardening canning and freezing The money required for this would be for two leaders needed to Instruct the girls We are leaving this over until next meeting when we will discuss it at more length In hospital the past few days and weeks have been Sam Glaby and Roy St Michaels Dick and George Hughes Georgetown We held a service Sunday for our late Comrade McDonald who passed away Saturday mor ning Many of you knew Alvin back many years when he was bar steward To his family we extend our sincere sympathies at this time BO to members saw fit to come ut Sunday to our day of elections Discounting the lany outoftown members we the local and llng area members that away must be content with the way things are being run at Branch 120 This Is a most important day and we had hoped that quite a
